The product says "and finish" - What does and finish mean? Is it satin, gloss, none ... what?

The company I am employed by needed to complete a very tight deadline for a floor decoration staining effort. Oil based gel stains were a good choice as we needed to mask out the shapes and could not have the bleeding usually to be expected with liquid oil stains. Because of the tight time schedule, we could not suffer the curing times necessary for oil based products. So we opted for this wiping stain. As it is water-based, clean up is easy. It dries/cures fairly fast allowing us to move on to the top coating within our tight schedule. It was just thick enough to avoid running under the tape and in most cases did not. When it did (run under the tape), a little light scraping usually cleaned the line up ready for the top coat (another manufacturer's catalyzed linseed oil floor finish). This product may not be as durable (penetrate as deeply) as the oil-based gel versions available but it is easy to deal with (water clean-up) and we found easy to do repair/touch-ups with. Additionally, the client expects some wear, as it is a floor after all, and so, as the floor wears and some stain is gradually scratched and pulled off, a rustic/antiques appearance will gradually develop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is great product for what it's intended for This product is not really intended for a new or prepped surface. If you are changing color over an existing stain this product is excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good product I used several colors to stain some small wooden buildings that I made as part of a playset for my son. Basically, it is a small wooden village on top of a table. The stain looks great. The colors are fantastic, and you can see the wood grain through the color. I even blended a couple of the colors to create new colors. It does not have an odor, it cleans up easily, and it dries quickly. I'm glad I bought it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't do it I've used many minwax products, and have achieved great results, but this is not one of them! Goopy, messy, and dried before I could evenly spread it. If you plan on staining stick to the more tried and tried methods (unless you are a gluten for punishment)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ugh no This stuff starts to dry before you get an even coat on. Cloths just soak it up so you don't get near the coverage the tube claims. I had to refinish my bookcase after finishing it. Pros- Beautiful colour. Cons- Thick, goopy, dries too fast, comes out splotchy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON"T USE This product is more like paint than stain. It's impossible to get an even coat, the edges don't blend. It dries way too fast and gets gummy. It was a very depressing experience to have to sand off the horrible results on a project that I spent a lot of time on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from minwax wiping stain can't believe the negative reviews on this product people must not be reading the instructions made my oak cabinets in kitchen and bathroom look new. awesome product

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for repairs My housekeepers were using a cleaning product, rather than furniture polish, to dust my wood surfaces. Eventually the finish was completely rubbed to the wood (got new housekeepers!). Meanwhile, I didn't want to have the entire china cabinet refinished, so I gave this a try. It worked to cover the bare spots and even out the finish. Work in small areas at a time. The stickiness mentioned by other reviewers is true, but if you try to work over a large area it will dry and drag, so work in 12" squares at a time. Apply evenly, let it dry, then buff with a soft cloth. Is it perfect? No, but it solved my problem.
