It is impossible to feather in a wet edge not matter what you do. If you notice most of the people who gave this project a good rating were staining small projects like handrails and such were you don't have to worry to much about the edge. But if you are staining a floor like me forget it you will fail. I will never touch another Minwax product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT! We purchased this product to refinish our kitchen cabinets. It is not ... DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT! We purchased this product to refinish our kitchen cabinets. It is not a stain. It does not soak into the wood. It is a paint product that is so think and is impossible to spread. No matter what brush you use, it still leaves brush marks. We tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and did our entire kitchen with this product only to wake up to find it had dried horribly. We decided to scrap the project and strip it off. The stuff turned to glue when we applied the stripper. It is a nightmare. Thankfully our local home depot store has a rockstar in the paint department (Jersey) that helped us find the right products to remove this awfulness off of our cabinets. We even contacted Minwax looking for help and all they were willing to do was give me our money back and then send us some stripper that would take 7-10 days to arrive. Not helpful at all. Anyway, save your money and more importantly your time and DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great results I used polyshade for a decent sized project, so the wet edge was in play. The staining turned out perfect. There are no flaws in it...I am an amateur at staining. But I am a professional at being picky about the end product. I would redo the whole project before I would tolerate subpar results. (Obviously with stain you start first by trying to sand off the unacceptable result... and I have done that before.) I think the reason I got such good results is I have used gel more than thin stain. That has taught me to 'rag' on stain. I have painted on stain... and sanded it off, to rag it back on because, in my opinion, the results are better. With polyshade, I think ragging is the key to really good results. It is a thick liquid, way thicker than normal stain. With a rag, you have an even lay down with a soft leading edge line automatically if you are familiar with ragging. I suspect, given its consistency, had I used a brush, I would have sanded everything off and started over with a rag. This stuff did save me time.... I didn't have to do a clear top coat! (I did use a pre-stain/conditioner.... if you don't condition the wood and you get blotchy bad results... don't blame the stain- hopefully in this day and age, most know that part.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I read the comment in this product, most of them saying they having hard time making it even shade, I don't have that problem because before I stain I used pre-stain that way the wood would drink the pre-stain stead of the regular stain, so when you put on the polyshades stain will spread evenly, mine did and it look great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Uneven finish We purchased this product to apply over recently finished floors to make them darker. We followed the instructions exactly, but the finish we got left something to be desired. It was very difficult to apply this product smoothly. If it's possible, it was somehow both runny AND syrupy, which made application a nightmare. We're thankful we tested in a closet first. We read similarly negative reviews elsewhere before purchasing this product, but hoped that our experience would be different. Sadly this was not the case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for new woods I used this product to stain and gloss my stair treads and risers a nice dark color. Mission oak turned my fir treads into a perfect finish that is awesome to look at. I found putting it on thick and sanding between coats the easiest way to deal with it. Easy to use and the only thing i had problems with was edges where the brush overlaped (going from the side to the top of the wood) the finish was hard to make even in those area's but i don't stain much so it may have been my skill problems. Anyhow i loved it and would use it again

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Product is okay I would of gave this five stars if I wouldn't have had to put so many coats on to get the color I wanted. I wish I would of went with the Java Gel now but to late after six coats forget it. I do have to say I started out with light cabinets. The mission oak goes on the darkest if you have light wood....but it was turning out too red, I wanted the java color. Anyways, I went out and bought the Honey polyshades to give it one last coat and to try to make it more javaish and it worked! The honey brought the red tones down a lot. So if you have dark wood to begin with and trying to achieve the java color get the honey. If you are going for more of a cherry...mahagony then go with the mission. I do have to say the mission has a rich deep tone and is very pretty but I wanted my java color. APPLY thin coats or your going to end up with a syrupy finish. Be very patient but in the end you'll be happy you did it!
