Customer Questions & Answers

How dirty will my hands get?

Does this dirt wash off hands and clothing better then other dirts?
Asked by: GreenPinky
I totally understand where you are coming from. Some soil can stain your hands and take some scrubbing to remove. This does not do that, it is easily washed from hands and clothing.

I'd recommend using potting soil if your planting any plants in this dirt. Otherwise you need to mix in peat moss and compost. Completely useless.

I purchase several bags of MG garden soil every year during the spring black Friday sale, and this is the first year I have been disappointed. There wasn't a single bag of soil in the bunch. It was all just extra fine mulch, bordering on sawdust. Since it is for an established herb garden, it's no big deal and it did the job. But, it would have never worked for vegetables. The "soil" doesn't hold water at all and it forms a crust on top after it dries. I also bought a few bags of the MG organic potting soil, and they were definitely not the rich black soil I've grown to expect either. Very disappointed in the MiracleGro products this spring.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Soil, This a soil amendment! 25% Less than pervious years. It bugs me that miracle gro labels this as soil. If you read the bag it is an in-ground amendment and needs to be mix with real soil. This product is mostly un/under composted wood chips and saw dust in my area. Also like most bagged amendments includes a small amount of rocks, plastic, metal, fabric, etc. I screen out the big chips and trash using 1/4" hardware cloth then mix it 1:1 with compost and use it as a light mulch on my lawn. The bags this year still cost the same but are now 25% smaller (.75cu ft) compared to previous yrs (1cu ft).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As you would expect I was able to snag this product during their Labor Day sale. It was definitely a great buy at the $2/bag rate. I used this for setting up a new tomato garden in my yard. The plants did extremely well, considering our Southern humidity and heat. I'm not sure if it was 100% the support of the soil but it probably didn't hurt either. We were able to water every other day, and the soil seemed to retain most of the moisture. My 5-star rating is mostly due to the fact that my first vegetable garden survived my black thumb. IT must be the soil. :)
