Customer Questions & Answers

How dirty will my hands get?

Does this dirt wash off hands and clothing better then other dirts?
Asked by: GreenPinky
I totally understand where you are coming from. Some soil can stain your hands and take some scrubbing to remove. This does not do that, it is easily washed from hands and clothing.

I purchase several bags of MG garden soil every year during the spring black Friday sale, and this is the first year I have been disappointed. There wasn't a single bag of soil in the bunch. It was all just extra fine mulch, bordering on sawdust. Since it is for an established herb garden, it's no big deal and it did the job. But, it would have never worked for vegetables. The "soil" doesn't hold water at all and it forms a crust on top after it dries. I also bought a few bags of the MG organic potting soil, and they were definitely not the rich black soil I've grown to expect either. Very disappointed in the MiracleGro products this spring.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too much garbage in the soil I purchased 15 bags of this soil for my garden. When I opened them up and started sifting through I notice several pieces of rock, plastic, hard plastic sticks, etc. I don't understand why these items are in this soil. Very disappointing and a poor quality product.

That is, raised on legs, not sitting on top of the ground. I used 50% mix of this soil and 50% top soil that I also purchased at the same time. I had excellent results on both my tomatoes and peppers. This season, I planted perennial strawberry plants in the bed that are already flourishing like crazy. In addition, I have also expanded from one to eight raised vegetable beds. The other seven are strictly using this garden soil only. Results are still to be determined. If the outcome is not to my satisfaction, I will return to using a 50/50 mix of this and topsoil.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lots of non biodegradable material I love the quality of miracle grow soil for my garden. I buy it every year. This year I was pretty disappointed to find LOTS of non biodegradable material. I found lots of metal pieces and shards, as well as massive 6 inch pieces of metal wire. This is not only good because it doesn't decompose, but could also break the tiller.

I'd recommend using potting soil if your planting any plants in this dirt. Otherwise you need to mix in peat moss and compost. Completely useless.

Bought a bunch of this when it was on sale; I was skeptical of paying a higher price than the store brand, but did so because Miracle Gro allegedly will give you a refund if it turns out to be garbage. Mine did turn out to be garbage; after the first rain, any "soil" component washed away to reveal that it was mostly mulch, which I could have bought for half the price! (IF I wanted to put mulch in my garden soil!) So, I sent in the paperwork to process the refund, and HAD TO WAIT AN ENTIRE MONTH before they confirmed they sent the refund to the wrong address, so now I have to wait ANOTHER 10-15 days to get my money back for this shoddy product!! Waste of time and money!!! Don't bother.
