I thought Miracle Gro was a good brand name so I bought about 8 bags for my new planter box. A few days after planting we started noticing gnats and little winged critters all over the top of the soil. So I googled "gnats in garden bed" and found that Miracle Gro soil is contaminated, "Miracle-Gro Potting Soil and Fungus Gnat Infestations" was the title. The search result was the first one.
Now I have to either dump it and start over or try to exterminate the problem. Will never buy Miracle gro again.

I mix this in with the soil from the hole dug for the plants, then put it around the plant itself and water every other day for a week and then as needed. My plants are gorgeous and the vegetables are bigger than average. I put this around my existing plants as well. My blueberries, raspberries, and concord grapes, are plump, juicy, big, and sweet. I am also writing this review as my "sweepstakes entry", but rest assured, I always use Miracle Gro products for my fruits and vegetables. Scott's lawn care is great as well. My neighbor's always comment on my flowers and my lawn.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Markas Must be variation based on location. Excellent product in Delray FL.
I just used this product to repot a houseplant and pot a tomato plant, both to be grown in my enclosed patio. The soil was dark and rich and had the appearance of a top quality potting soil. My one bag was of far hgher quality than what I have purchased as "garden soil" under different brand names in years past. There were a few small twigs, etc. but I looked at this as a positive for drainage and the soil had an excellent texture overall. I felt no need to add vermiculite, perlite, etc. based on my initial observation of this soils density and water holding characteristics given that I will be closely monitoring my few plants. Upon first watering the soil absorbed water nicely and drained excess appropriately into the saucers under my pots. The soil maintained nice moisture in the 24 hours since I first watered. I cannot vouch for how well my plants and tomatoes will turn out or for the fertilization characteristics of this soil yet. I can only assume that there must be some great variation in the suppliers of this product for Miracle Gro based on the horrible reviews, or some serious haters or competitors of this company. I'll add that I have 35 years home gardening experience including some professional guerilla gardening if you get my drift. If you have any doubts about this product just tear open the plastic bag in the store to check it out first. I had low expectations based on past experience with "garden soil". I did not expect it to be as good as far more expensive house plant potting soil, but the product in the bag I took home was superb. No bad odors, no signs of insects, a nice rich dark color and uniform texture and consistency. I've included a couple of pics of my starter tomato plant in this soil to show that it is as described.

I moved about 150 seedling for a variety of vegetables from some small cell containers to this products. Growth not only stopped, plants started yellowing terribly. And I'm a very experienced gardener, this shouldn't have been happening. After weeks of that I unpotted about half of everything into fresh soil from my garden. The recovery was so fast (3-4 days) that a week later I unpotted the rest. Dumped the MG soil into the trashbin. I suspect a screw up at the factory, too much of something. I don't think I can trust MG again - too many additives, too many chances for you to get an improper mix. I unfortunately may have to just pitch my plants, they are probably 4 weeks behind where they should be considering when they were started.

I purchased this product in March from Sam's club, and now I have junk growing along side of my tomato , long green and cucumber plants. I waste more of my time weeding my garden than enjoying my garden. The product should be free of any weeds or mushrooms anything that we're not growing.

I have a very small garden patch. However, I purchased enough of the garden soil to intermix with my existing soil hoping to improve the vegetable results. The plants grew much larger than I ever expected and produced more vegetables than I expected. I ended up canning and freezing a lot. Great product!!! Got some again to put into another garden patch this year.

I purchased several bags of this soul from Home Depot for a school garden. It's a very strange material. There are a lot of wood pieces in it. We have gnats or soil bugs flying all around the bags and the classroom. Sad to say but a lot of our seeds have not and will not germinate. My co worker bought the same soil at a different Home Depot and her soil appears to be much better quality than mine. She could not believe in that we had the exact same product.

Mirclegro garden soil is a great product for our vegetables. We do containerized growing of many varieties of peppers(mostly HOT!) here in Florida. Because the ground soil is almost nonexistent and it sits on coral rock, peppers don't want to grow there. Container growing with Miraclegro is the way to go! Although our growing season is Fall through early Spring, can actually grow and produce into the summer, which is pretty tough here.
