Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MiniGardener Made my garden come alive!
We recently bought this house and the front yard had the typical "landscaping" that was boring and water intensive. When I removed my dead turf I discovered there was no soil underneath, only sand. So I bought more than 40 bags overall to make my small front yard into a garden that would grow a miniature landscape. I buy the smaller bags (1 cu. foot) because they are easier for me to haul around. The soil was just the right texture and richness, mixed beautifully with the sand, and created a nice dark backdrop for the young plants. In the few weeks I have been doing this transformation I have heard lots of nice comments from my new neighbors. Highly recommended for the texture, the quality of the soil, and ease of use.

I've always had very good luck with Miracle Gro Garden Soil. I used 36 bags, over time, to fill the new flower bed that stretches the width of my back yard. I'm not quite finished, but the part that is completed has taken all of my new transplants and is really nourishing them well. Can't beat the price either................50% off!!!!

I've been very disappointed in Miracle-Gro garden soil for vegetables and flowers. Last year I purchased 4 or 5 bags and was disappointed to find large rocks, bits of plastic bag. I removed these items from the dirt as I found them and didn't think much of it at first. Then I stated findings candy bar wrappers, bits of Christmas lights without the bulbs, and the end of a cigar pipe. Trash. I found trash. This is not what I want in my garden. I felt annoyed but I removed the items still feeling that the product would overall be ok to grow my vegetables in. I reuse my soil, so this year as I was filling my planters and planting bulbs I found a battery, AA! I'm disgusted that this trash is in my garden, and now I'm worried about what else is in there and if any battery acid contaminated the soil that's I've been holding in my hands and growing onions and carrots in that I then ate.

I always start out new garden plantings with this soil. I find that it definitely fosters good growth in both vegetables and in flowers. I highly recommend it!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Markas Must be variation based on location. Excellent product in Delray FL.
I just used this product to repot a houseplant and pot a tomato plant, both to be grown in my enclosed patio. The soil was dark and rich and had the appearance of a top quality potting soil. My one bag was of far hgher quality than what I have purchased as "garden soil" under different brand names in years past. There were a few small twigs, etc. but I looked at this as a positive for drainage and the soil had an excellent texture overall. I felt no need to add vermiculite, perlite, etc. based on my initial observation of this soils density and water holding characteristics given that I will be closely monitoring my few plants. Upon first watering the soil absorbed water nicely and drained excess appropriately into the saucers under my pots. The soil maintained nice moisture in the 24 hours since I first watered. I cannot vouch for how well my plants and tomatoes will turn out or for the fertilization characteristics of this soil yet. I can only assume that there must be some great variation in the suppliers of this product for Miracle Gro based on the horrible reviews, or some serious haters or competitors of this company. I'll add that I have 35 years home gardening experience including some professional guerilla gardening if you get my drift. If you have any doubts about this product just tear open the plastic bag in the store to check it out first. I had low expectations based on past experience with "garden soil". I did not expect it to be as good as far more expensive house plant potting soil, but the product in the bag I took home was superb. No bad odors, no signs of insects, a nice rich dark color and uniform texture and consistency. I've included a couple of pics of my starter tomato plant in this soil to show that it is as described.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by GFowler Not soil but makes a good mulch
As many others reported this not soil, it is a partially composted mulch. There was no trash in the 15 bags I bought like others reported. If used as a soil amendment I suspect there would be a large nitrogen demand as much of it is not fully composted wood. I use it as a surface mulch to prevent evaporation.
On the bag it says "Grows plants twice as big". It does not say what it is being compared to. If the comparison is bare granite it is way more than 2 times, if compared to other brands of garden soil, I doubt it - pure marketing spin.
No way would I pay the normal price of $5 but when it goes on sale for $2.50 it is a reasonable price.

I'm wishing I had read the recent reviews here before I purchased this product. Miracle Grow has been a name I've ALWAYS trusted until now. I purchased 6 bags of this stuff and every single one looked like something I would have shoveled out of the street gutter after a late winter thaw. It resembled wet matted leaves, smelled like a rodent died in the mix and came complete with a cloud of gnats every time I opened a bag. I found pieces of gray plastic bags, some brittle plastic, a piece of wire, a couple of rocks, plant roots and several sticks throughout the mix. Thankfully I had on leather gloves and worked the stuff with a small shovel so at least I didn't get injured by anything. Funny thing is, the bag says it's garden soil. I kind of expected it to actually contain soil.
