Customer Questions & Answers

Will this product cause root rot? If it leaves the soil moist then root rot would accumulate?

Asked by: hailthequeen
Yes. It did cause root rot for me! Not happy at all. Lost most of my potted annuals!

How can it be 64 Qt, yet .66 Cubic Feet?

If this truly is a 64 qt bag as stated, that should convert to 1.4 cubic feet of material. The .66 cubic feet as shown in the details would equate to a 17 quart capacity. Very irritating that manufacturers and retailers use different standards to confuse the buyer.
Asked by: Bobcat
No need to apologize Home Depot. Here are the facts. First we must distinguish between dry and wet quarts. A cubic foot is 29.9221 wet quarts or 25.71 in dry quarts. 2 cubic feet = 51.43 dry quarts. 51 43/100 quarts dry US (qt dry / volume and capacity) The average volume for a 2 cu. ft. bag should be between 50 and 53 dry quarts, more or less considering moisture content. For example bags that are kept outside will often acquire more moisture than bags kept in a controlled environment. Outside moisture not only adds weight to bags, but it condenses fresh soil mix as well. Expect your dry quart capacity to vary a few quarts. 36 "DRY" quarts not 17. 1.4 cubic feet (cu ft - ft3 in volume and capacity) Equals : 36.00 quarts dry US (qt dry / volume and capacity)

I am near Chicago and we are no strangers to rain, this week several days of it. The pots will be definitly over watered, right:?

Asked by: Suzie
Suzie, the Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix absorbs excess water, keeping it away from the roots, and releases the water as the soil begins to dry. Unless torrential rains occur and wash the product away, it should be fine. If you are especially concerned, you may wish to move the plants inside.

64 qt. Moisture Control Potting Mix is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 230.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It survived my novice ways For the first time ever, I decided I would buy a plant and pot it. Being young and reckless, I figured moisture control would be something I need because I have no idea what I am doing. WOW, this stuff really helps you control the moisture level in your plant. I WAY over-watered my plant (recall that I am young and reckless) and this stuff sucked it up like nothing and kept my fledgling plant from dying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Side by Side Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Soil Vs. Other Cheaper Moistuer Control Potting soil When planting my window planter boxes I ran out of Miracle-Gro Moisture Control potting soil so I ran to the local quick mart and picked up a cheap bag of moisture control potting soil thinking it would probably work just as well. I wont be making that mistake again. you can see for yourself the difference after only 2 weeks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This item is better ham I anticipated! I bought this in May when I ran out of my other potting soil. I went to our local hardware store and this was the only kind they carried. So I bought a couple bags. I wasn't pleased because of the cost difference, but now I am extremely happy I did! The difference in the flowers with this potting soil and the other is crazy. I wanted to post pics bc it is such a huge difference! I highly recommend this. I never write reviews. But I had to with this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not nearly as good as it used to be I've been using this product for years. It used to work very well to keep the plants watered and healthy. It seems to me that Miracle-Gro changed the formula for this product. Because I have to water the plants almost every day and some days twice a day. The moisture control soil does not seem to retain the water like it used to. I will not buy it next year.

Lost some houseplants I've had for years before I figured out it was this mix. That said, it seemed to work well for my flowering pots that live outside full time in the summer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Potting Mix is by far the best around! I am a total newbie to gardening of any sorts. I purchased a bag of Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Mix to try out because of its great ability to retain moisture; and its ingredients make it so it is almost impossible to overwater. I am having awesome results with my patio tomato plants, that i have in 5 gallon buckets; and am also having great results growing some herbs with this mix. This stuff slowly feeds your plants and vegetables so you do not need to purchase more products to fertilize or feed your plants. I would highly recommend this product to anyone, no matter if you are a Master Gardner or a Newbie like myself. A+

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Use for Indoor Plants I have well over 40 house plants and about 20 in my office. I had bought two bags of this product - one for my home and one for my office. I couldn't understand why this winter, I had a problem with gnats in my house that I had never had before. I was told they were from the soil. After finally ridding them for the most part in my house, I started to notice them in my office. Today when I opened the bag in my office, it was filled with these nasty gnats. I would not recommend using this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WAY TO MANY GNAT EGGS!!!!!!!! I just bought a bag of your miracle grow potting mix to reppot my very young vegetable plants in. After buying i looked up the reviews and I read all these horrid review on your product about the gnats and your statement of that a few eggs are laid through the air holes during transfer and storage. So I decided to do a test. I took 6 samples from this bag I just opened (top bottom 4 sides and middle) and I brought out my old microscope to see what I could find and what I saw scared me. There are so many gnat eggs in here. There's actual clumps of them, i couldnt keep track when counting those in clumps. But i counted single ones i saw and I can get over 25 of them in the small view of my microscope, in a small very scattered and spread sample and that's what I counted before loosing track. All 6 samples were the same result. Meaning that the eggs are like this throughout the whole bag. There's just way to many plain eggs to have been laid there through the holes. More like they were in there since possessing. I would highly recommend your people look into this and find a way to fix it. I'm very unhappy with this. But I shall continue with the planting and I hope that this mix makes my plants 2 times as big like you say. I will use sand as you suggest but I surely hope you fix this or I'm never buying another thing from you and I'll make sure I spread that cause that many eggs in a bag is ridiculous and no one deserves to have gnats all over their house and killing their plants
