Customer Questions & Answers

Minimum water pressure to function properly

I want to use a soaker type hose connected to a water collection barrel, which is elevated 3 feet above the garden's surface. The barrel stands about 3 feet high, so that the pressure when full is approximately 3 psi, and about 1.5 psi when empty. Bear in mind that normal potable water supplied by a municipality is between 40-60 psi. Does the rain barrel provide enough pressure for this hose to work? If not are there more porous types? I look forward to your prompt and informed response. Alan Gilbert
Asked by: Alan
Good question, because I'm considering doing the same thing. I read 10psi is what's needed for soaker hoses to work. I also read there are now specially designed soaker hoses for use with rain barrels. You could try their website

Are these in stock @ store #160 Lagrange GA

Cannot find out online
Asked by: none
The stores don't seem to carry the Miracle Gro version of this hose which is 50'. Stores do carry the 100' Element SoakerPro System which appears to be the same hose made by the same manufacturer (Swan) just with different branding and double the length.

How many gallons per minute does a 50 ft. soaker hose apply at 40 psi. ?

Asked by: RED
Because of the various factors that must be included in estimating the flow rate from a soaker hose, it's difficult to determine the amount of water you're supplying to your garden. A simple method of measuring water flow is to use a 5-gallon bucket and a watch. Place the entire coiled hose in the bucket, fill the bucket with water, place a mark at the top of the water line. Remove the hose. Now, measure how much water is left in the bucket. Let's say there is now four gallons left after removing the hose. Empty the bucket, replace the hose, turn on the water and start timing how long it takes for the water to reach the mark. Apply this simple formula: (number of gallons) divided by number of seconds to reach the gallon mark X 60 = gallons per minute. So, if your bucket indicates 4 gallons of water after removing the hose, and it takes 600 seconds (10 minutes) to refill the bucket up to the mark, multiply by 60 = 0.4 gallons per minute.

SoakerPRO Element 3/8 in. Dia x 50 ft. Advance Water Hose is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 51.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Saves water and time The Miracle Gro Soaker Hose has push-on couplings that allow you to customize it. It comes with a total of four pieces: two male and two female. Instead of carrying a water pail to every plant in the yard, we just lay the hose out down the full length of our rose bushes and turn on the water. The Miracle Gro Soaker Hose does not take long to water all 18 of our plants we have lined up against out fence line. 50 foot was plenty long enough for us to use but the hose also comes in 75 foot length as well. You can also connect two hoses together with the included fittings.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Inconsistent quality I bought two of these hoses and connected them together. One works fine and the second one barely works at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple soaker There is really nothing fancy about this soaker. It's really easy to use. Just unscrew old hose and attach the new one.. Turn on the water but make sure the end of this Soaker hose is capped or you will have a flow of Water and not a slow soak. The hose is a little tiny but it works. 25' isnt long but the ends are made to extend. I like this hose and will probably get another.

I used the hose as directed, but the water never reached the end of the hose. The first 5 feet of the hose worked normally, however, after that the water barely got the bottom of the hose wet, and water never reached the end of the 50 feet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This hose is 50' long! In my application; I cut it into about 30' and 20' foot sections. The hose has a female hose bib and a plugged end on the other side. I needed to buy some adapters / hose parts; a female hose bib and a hose plug, about $3. It's too early for installing it now, late March in Michigan. However it is prepared and ready to go for late April. I use a simple timer to control the A & B sides. About 15 minutes on each outlet, every other day works for my use. The B section is connected by a 15' 'remnant hose' from the HD hose bin that runs under/around the porch step. There are two flower beds; one on each side of my front porch. I wind the hose around the shrubs and the flower beds. This doesn't waste water watering the sidewalk or the porch. Works well, expect this to last as long as the old one that this replaced (same brand was ~ 7-10 years old). I store mine in the garage when not in use in the late fall, and put it back in the flower beds late spring. I bury it under the mulch, sunlight destroys the plasticizers in the hose and hide it from view.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 50' Soaker Hose from Trusted Name in Gardening This 50' soaker hose comes with 2 male and 2 female ends which allows you to make 2 separate hoses. Simply cut to the length you need, slip on the ends and you are ready to go. I purchased a garden hose "Y" (splitter) so I could run both soaker hose sections at the same time with only one garden hose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product This product is easy to customize for your usage. You can only make 2 sets of hoses but for most that's all you need. What I did is add a male hose-end nipple to the plastic piece I attached to the hose so I can plug my female connector attached to my water hose up to each soaker and turn on my timer for set amount without having to unscrew anything. This works great in an area where I have 3 blackberry plants (10 foot of hose) that require more watering than my drought tolerant shrubs and plants on the other side of the yard (40 feet of hose). Easy to cut with scissors. Easy to install the hose-end connectors that hook to the hose and blocks one end. No leaks from my installation. Soaks as intended.
