Why do these pavers cost 4x as much as a paver that is twice as thick? Is stated price correct?

$398/pallet and a pallet contains 250 bricks. That means these pavers cost almost $1.60 each. A regular Holland paver costs about 0.40/brick. These half-thickness pavers cost 4X as much. How is this possible? Must be an error.

Answer:
These are clay bricks which are harder and longer lasting than the cheaper concrete "bricks". They will last longer and look nice longer. I have a similar brick that has been in a sidewalk for 17 years and they look great.

Can you please explain why Home Depot doubled the price per pallet for these bricks in the Washington, DC area over the past year? The price in July 2015 was $398 per pallet (see attached). The cost to manufacture and ship these could not have doubled in that time.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Paver for Curb Appeal We used the pavers for a walkway in the front of our 1863 carriage house in Brooklyn, NY and it looks stunning in a herringbone pattern. This is an attractive paver and looks great with the kiln marks on it. Please note it is much more orange-red than the picture shows rather than a true brick red. It ships from California so it was a long trip to NYC and there were quite a few bricks with damaged corners. Still, we managed to place them on the underside or use them as cut pieces. The brick cuts very nicely and has a lovely, handmade quality to it. We bought it because it is a clay brick rather than cement or a composite with surface color that might wear off. Over all, very pleased and will order them again to finish our terrace in the back. October 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT COLOR Purchased 2 pallets of the Red Tumble to be used as walk path paver .. Very satisfied and will definatley use these again. June 15, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by watch pallet size pallet size from local brick sellers is 500+ bricks. So I ordered by the pallet, and received just half the number of bricks I expected. Small print indicates pallet covers 56sq ft, but you have to do the math yourself to work that out at 252 bricks. (I'm finishing the edge to a lawn so hadn't worked it out in sq ft.) August 12, 2013
