Customer Questions & Answers

Will this work on a wooden door?

Asked by: Christol
Yes, it will work perfectly on an already painted or an unpainted door. If there is a finish on the door, a light sanding to dull the finish will help with adhesion, as will a layer of primer (recommended if you are changing to a light color)

You can mix these paints to achieve custom colors, but it will be a trial and error effort. There are no recipes that I know of out there (yet).

I recently painted my doors with the color Spontaneous and now I want to change it to Passionate. Do I have to prime the door first or can I paint right over it?
Asked by: Kali
Priming would help hide the lower color layer, but my guess is that the red will cover that purple fairly well with 2-3 coats.

I am looking to purchase an unfinished fiberglass door so that I can paint the inside and outside two different colors. Will I still need a primer with this paint for this type of door?
Asked by: BlackCherokee
Primer would be optional on a fresh door. The paint should stick just fine without it.

Express Yourself 1 qt. Satin Passionate Front Door Paint is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful color! I'm very pleased with the look of our door after painting it with this paint. The color is gorgeous and the paint went smoothly over the primed surfaced. We did have to put 3 coats.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not worth the cost. The color was good. But did not lay well. Directions state to apply with a brush, so purchased a best quality brush. Door was purchased primed, so I scuffed the surface, and applied paint. Did not flow out nice. Left brush marks. Definitely requires two coats. Barely covered two coats to both sides of door. Would have worked better being sprayed on. If buying new, purchase your door already painted(thought I'd save a few bucks painting myself, but with cost of paint, prep, and paint time, and more importantly quality of finish). Also, even with proper surface prep, paint does not seem to adhere well. Scratches/peels easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Front door paint This product provided beautiful coverage in two coats. I was able to paint my second coat soon after the first. I had a TON of paint left in the container. This color is so rich and beautiful. It goes perfectly with my dark walnut shutters. Super pleased with this product. Also I was able to close my front door a few hours after I painted and had no sticking!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use I needed a paint for a door that takes a beating by the sun. Most reviews said it takes 2 coats but I needed a 3rd to achieve full coverage. With that said, when you add the time it takes to paint, then allow to dry for 1 - 2 hours before reccoating and needing 3 coats, you can expect about 8 hours before you can shut your door. When you add a sealer (we haven't yet) you will need to allow for that to dry also. There is enough paint for at least one more door and maybe 2 so the value may receive a higher rating if you have more than one door to paint. It will be interesting to see how this paint holds up to the sun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Front Door Paint - good value Needed to repaint a 15 year old metal front door - loved the color the contractor had used - but couldn't duplicate it. The SATIN PASSIONATE color I picked from the Home Depot Front Door Paint online sale - is a good product but the color was more RED than I wanted. It's not the great match I had hoped - but it's good quality paint, went on easily, dried quickly - perhaps too quickly. They advertise this feature - take that seriously. One should really really examine the painted surface quickly afterward - to make sure there are no runs, uneven strokes and correct them before finishing - it will be too late even 30 minutes later! Second coat went on very easily and that time I knew to be more "perfect" in my paint strokes - was able to close the door on this job within 2 hours - that part is amazing !!
