If you are looking to size a piece of heating equipment you want to start by doing a heat loss calculation. There are a number of free programs on line that will do this. Just search for heat loss program. These programs will allow you to put in basic factors about the structure and its location. From that it will calculate how much heat the structure loses on the coldest hour of they statistical coldest day of the year; in your area.
