Yes it can. The conversion kit for this unit is Model # M53080 and it is listed on The Home Depots web site as Internet SKU number 202812676. If you put that number in the search block on there site it will come up.

This unit has spark ignition also know as electronic ignition. The early models of this unit had hot surface ignition.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Every year since I have owned it, something has gone wrong. Now this winter just started and I ne... Every year since I have owned it, something has gone wrong. Now this winter just started and I need to replace the Motor and power vent assembly. You can't just go to hardware store and buy parts. Authorized shop is only one that can order parts for dealers. And of course I can't know what the price is. If a store sells any product, they should be able to get parts for customers.

I can only comment that it was easy to mount but requires some skill and some sort of mechanical equipment such as a manual or electric lifting tool due to its weight.
