Should a Rug Pad be a little smaller than the rug it is to support?

I am wondering if I should trim the rug pad, so it is just a bit smaller than the rug that will be covering it, allowing the sides of the rug to drape over the edges of the rug pad? And if so, how much smaller is appropriate?

Answer:
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. Rug pads should be smaller than your area rug size by at least 2 inches on each side. This allows the rug to lay flat on the ground preventing a tripping hazard.

Is the pad so thick that the legs of a recliner with sliders leave a lasting imprint?

My current pad is quite thick. The rug is also thick. When I slid the recliner to a different location on the rug (with sliders under the legs), the rug itself bunched up. Not what I expected from a very expensive pad.

What should I use to attach 2 pieces I've cut from this rug pad to fit a smaller rug? Carpet tape? Duct tape? Masking tape? Thank you.

Answer:
You shouldn't need any tape at all. You can lay them side by side and the rug on top will be enough weight to keep them from moving.

Because of asthma and allergies I need to know what type of recycled materials are in this product? What is SBR latex blend? Is it natural rubber? Does have VOC's? Does it outgas?

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Check the specification description for accurate sizing! You as I would probably assume an item listed by its size would be that size. That would be incorrect. It was significantly smaller. The pad model #205443086 is listed as 11 ft. 1 in. X 15 ft. 8 in. was actually 13 ft. 10 in. X 10 ft. 2 in. This is a significant reduction in square footage. I contacted Home Depot. Since I had already cut and installed the padding and planned to keep it, I was offered a 10% refund. No idea how that was determined. Anyway, I received the refund and the padding fits the bill for the job. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great pad at great price At 1/4 inch thickness, the pad is dense enough to feel stable under an area rug, but add a little cushion. The rubber bottom prevents sliding on our newly refinished hardwood floors, as the photo shows. We cut it easily with sharp scissors. We left it about 1 inch short of the rug dimensions in each direction. Price was great for the size larger than we needed, so we have some leftover. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for the job I needed a carpet pad for my area rug. I had trouble finding any that were more than 6' wide for my 8 x 10 area rug. This one would do the job without a seam. It gives cushioning without being bulky and feels good under foot. Also easy to cut to size. No special tools needed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice padding I purchased this while on sale, so the price was easier to swallow. In the long run, having padding will benefit due to the extension of the life of the rug. Might be nice if the padding was a bit thicker. It does add some cushion, but definitely doesn't feel cushy, especially with a short nap rug. We have some of this padding under a much longer shag rug and this pad feels sufficient for that. Purchased this type of padding after doing research on padding that won't damage hardwood floors. Our are engineered hardwood. Natural rubber is one of the dual surfaces-the one the touches the floors. The other side is very scratchy/fiberous and between that and furniture on parts of the rugs, we have had no problems with the rugs moving off the padding. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value For the price, this dual sided rug pad is extremely good and is comparable to rug pads at three or four times the price by RH (Restoration Hardware) and Arhaus. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The pad was easy to cut to size with snippers. We had no problems with odor. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product at a good price October 25, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Longer than expected I have a 9 by 12.5 ft rug and the pad is still longer than my rug so I'll have to cut it. Also, based on the look of the rubber im concerned that it may damage my hardwood but only time will tell. October 25, 2016
