Is the pad so thick that the legs of a recliner with sliders leave a lasting imprint?

My current pad is quite thick. The rug is also thick. When I slid the recliner to a different location on the rug (with sliders under the legs), the rug itself bunched up. Not what I expected from a very expensive pad.

Should a Rug Pad be a little smaller than the rug it is to support?

I am wondering if I should trim the rug pad, so it is just a bit smaller than the rug that will be covering it, allowing the sides of the rug to drape over the edges of the rug pad? And if so, how much smaller is appropriate?

Answer:
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. Rug pads should be smaller than your area rug size by at least 2 inches on each side. This allows the rug to lay flat on the ground preventing a tripping hazard.

What should I use to attach 2 pieces I've cut from this rug pad to fit a smaller rug? Carpet tape? Duct tape? Masking tape? Thank you.

Answer:
You shouldn't need any tape at all. You can lay them side by side and the rug on top will be enough weight to keep them from moving.

Because of asthma and allergies I need to know what type of recycled materials are in this product? What is SBR latex blend? Is it natural rubber? Does have VOC's? Does it outgas?

7 ft. 8 in. x 10 ft. 4 in. Supreme Dual Surface Felted Rug Pad is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 289.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the job I needed a carpet pad for my area rug. I had trouble finding any that were more than 6' wide for my 8 x 10 area rug. This one would do the job without a seam. It gives cushioning without being bulky and feels good under foot. Also easy to cut to size. No special tools needed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

If you are looking for a QUALITY area rug underlayment... this is what you need. The pad is 1/4" thick. The alternative is either a very thin flimsy piece of felt with no backing or one of those rubbery net like pads that disintegrates onto your floor over time.. creating a mess. The Mohawk pad cushions and thus protects your rug and floor, plus, the bottom of the pad has a slip resistant texture that holds your rug in place. If you are investing in a quality rug, then you need to invest in a quality pad. This pad was a fair price, especially compared to the outrageous prices for measurably inferior rug pads on-line and in stores. I haven't seen this type of rug pad in stores. I will add that your ordinary home scissors are not capable of trimming this pad. You need to measure and trim, if appropriate outside using a sharp blade.

The pad is very sturdy and one side has a rubbery texture so it doesn't slip on smooth floors. This is a fiber type pad not the foam I'm used to seeing for carpet. It's not as soft or as thick as the foam pads. I didn't measure it but it was larger than the 8 x 10 area rug I bought it for. It is tough so normal household scissors may not do the trick. I used the sharpest least used shears I had and it was still a task. A regular utility razor was basically useless. After installing it I could tell a noticeable difference in the softness of the rug. I also noticed my footsteps are much quieter. I wasn't expecting as much of a difference given the material and thinness of the pad. I would buy another if needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy customer! I don't really like leaving any reviews but I'm extremely happy with this purchase that I have to let others know about this area rug padding. It made my thin 8x10 area rug look like if it's an expensive rug. With the padding my rug is now very cushioned, comfortable and made the rug seem like it was thick. The only thing I had to do was to cut the padding smaller because the padding and area rug were the same length and so the edges of the area rug weren't flat on the floor. By cutting the padding smaller fixed that problem.

I was able to lay it down in my living room myself and although I wouldn't recommended it, it can be done. I've had it for about a month and I lifted up the rug to see if any smudges or anything was left on the floor beneath it and there was nothing. The rug I put on top of it doesn't move and is very soft so I have no reason to believe the rug pad is not doing it's job. Good product.

The area rug I ordered from Home Depot was 6'7" X 9'6" so the only pad size available was this 8' X 10' pad. I rolled it out so I could cut it to size knowing I would be wasting a lot but found it to be much smaller than advertised. The 8' x 10' rug pad I paid for is actually only 6' x 9'. Although a few inches smaller each way from what the manufacturer recommends, it will work; I just don't like paying for something I don't get.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pad at great price At 1/4 inch thickness, the pad is dense enough to feel stable under an area rug, but add a little cushion. The rubber bottom prevents sliding on our newly refinished hardwood floors, as the photo shows. We cut it easily with sharp scissors. We left it about 1 inch short of the rug dimensions in each direction. Price was great for the size larger than we needed, so we have some leftover.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Area Rug Pad So far so good. Perfect for an area rug on laminate flooring. Keeps rug from moving (rubber side down) and adds padding to the carpet. Somewhat easy to trim (have a sharp blade or scissors). Used trimmed portion of pad as leg protection under furniture to prevent damage to the laminate floor. Rubber side of pad does not appear to mar laminate flooring. So far a wise purchase.
