If your home meets the square footage criteria, this would be suitable for a two story home. I would recommend placing downstairs on a level surface away from heat exchange.

It's neither. This unit is an evaporative type, the same as the more expensive whole house humidifiers.

Answer:
I have it on the first floor of my two story home, home is 1700sqft, near the air intake for the furnace. I have to fill this unit once in the morning and once at night. I have noticed less static throughout home and skin is not as dry. If you live in a cold climate, you will most likely have to increase the temp in the home since the higher humidity makes it feel cooler in the home.

If the square footage listed will accommodate your home, placing on the lower level will provide the most humidification for both areas.

2.5-gal. Evaporative Humidifier for 2,000 sq. ft. is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent humidifier for small home This humidifier claims to work for spaces up to 1300 sqft. Our one story townhome is about 1220 sqft, and this humidifier does the job with no problems. The unit does not take up a huge amount of space, since it is a tower, which is good. I filled the humidifier tank (2 times, to fill bottom reservoir and tank fully) with tap water plus bacteriostat. The tank does not have a flat top, so you will need to keep hold of the tank as it fills. The opening at the bottom is easy to push and twist to open and vice versa to close. Minimal, if any dripping while carrying. I did notice that the tank does not sit perfectly flush with the humidifier body around it and tilts forward just a bit toward the top when sitting in place; this did not alter the function at all and isn't really noticeable unless you are OCD. Upon first use, I set it to run on the "automatic" fan setting, and it used the high speed until the desired humidity was reached. The high speed fan noise is noticeable and would cause you to turn up the volume on the TV if it was in the same room. This is only to be expected. The low fan setting, which is the primary speed used in automatic once the humidity has stabilized, is just a whisper. Just to note, it does have a medium setting, too. I have a digital thermometer and humidistat in the house, so I was able to double check the reading given by the included humidistat on the unit; it is fairly accurate, but you may have to turn up the unit's humidistat higher than what you want to reach the actual desired humidity. This is because the unit's humidistat is right on the power cord near the machine and will inevitably get more humid air before the rest of the house. This problem will likely go away as the humidity in the house stabilizes and the humidifier doesn't have to run as much or blow as strongly. It did for me, and now both readings are very similar, within a few percentage points of each other. In summary, this unit works, is simple to use and is very quiet on low. This is the only unit I found that seemed well made and reasonably priced for this much sqft. I went from low 30's in humidity percentage to being able to set it to 55 and the unit will get it there. I didn't try setting it higher than 55 (unit goes to 65 and will run constantly if set to 65), because that would be too humid for the winter and make my windows wet with moisture. I recommend using with bacteriostat to inhibit mold and mildew.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really nice humidifier We've only had this humidifier for about a month so I can't comment on the longevity or maintenance of it, but so far we like it a lot. It runs quietly, maintains a nice moisture in the air, and the automatic setting is great. The only reason for not getting 5 stars is that it would be nice if the filling tank was a little bigger. I would guess the filling tank is about 1.25 gallons. The rest of the water storage in in the base of the unit. We have it set at 45% humidity and we end up refilling at least once, sometimes twice a day. Overall we are very happy with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value, auto feature This product has an auto speed which adjusts the fan speed to bring the humidity to the desired level which makes it better than those "on and off" variety. the only negative on this unit is the highest speed is a bit noisy but no more so than most humidifiers. The designers could take a second look at its appearance as I believe they were imitating a Dalek from Dr. Who when creating this machine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the money! Did a lot of shopping around and comparing before I bought this, couldn't find a unit like this for under a hundred dollars anywhere. Would've given it five stars if it weren't for the fact that the built in humidistat is very inaccurate.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reasonable Fairly quiet. A bit clumsy to fill since it has no flat bottom to rest on. The displayed humidity level is way off. I've now bought 2 stand alone humidistats, plus one I already had. Four instruments, four different readings, and not by just a few %. Guess it isn't just this humidifier. Otherwise, it does the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buubleslmm Absolutely love this product!! I have a 1200 sq ft home and one unit takes care of the whole house. Between the fireplace and the gas heat, dryness was a big problem. Not any more!! Yea!!
Date published: 2015-12-22
Rated 4 out of 5 by from form does not follow function The unit is very attractive but I agree with a commenter that the water tank is very awkward and a pain to fill, it makes for drips. I'm tired of having to hold it upright while filling and the plastic is too dark to really see the level of water. It is fairly quiet compared to my old Holmes humidifier. I'm not sold on the sq. footage this is supposed to humidify, but according to instructions this should go next to a cold air return which i can't do. Maybe that's why the claim is made. My house is only 1000sq. ft. so it works well. I have an old humidity/temp indicator and the humidity on that shows 20% but the display on this unit shows 40%. Don't know what to make of that either.
