Answer:
There are 51 Genus/Species of mold that are black. Color of mold does not matter.
IF you see mold, you need to clean it and then remove the source of moisture that is allowing the mold to grow. Moisture control is the key to mold prevention/minimization.

In the kitchen there is a lazy susan type corner base cabinet that since day one has smelled like what I assumed to be cat urine. I supposed the cats must have run around the home spraying everything to include in and out of that base cabinet. Over the last year and a half it seemed the smell was/is getting worse, especially on warm and warm/rainy days. Unrelated to this, the same smell presented from under a sink and I discovered a small leak which had left the boards underneath moist long enough that mildew was beginning to grow. Took care of that and cleaned it up and it got me to thinking about that cabinet in the kitchen. Just this morning I finally had the time to pull the stove out to take a look behind the cabinet and oh boy, do we have a problem. I'm heading out today to get one of these kits, I'd like to know whether I'm dealing with just mildew, or mold. I suspect mold only b/c in the last year I've battled sinus and respiratory problems pretty regularly when usually I only have problems seasonally. Can't believe I didn't suspect mildew/mold sooner. I swore it smelled just like cat urine and since the prior tenant had cats ... well ... glad at least I finally figured it out. Hope that helped! Good luck to you in solving your odor issue! Opening and drying the interior of the wall may be a difficult decision to make, but is the only reliable way to eliminate the water that is likely the source of your musty odor.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Misleading product Though the description makes it sound as though you can get some results without sending in the sample, this is not the case. You have to spend another $40 AND wait at least 7 days to get any results, even a simple yes or no that mold is present. Buyer BEWARE. August 25, 2016
