DOES IS DR. IRON ORGANIC LAWN PELLETS KILLS MOSS?

DOES IS DR. IRON ORGANIC LAWN PELLETS KILLS MOSS?
Asked by: TOM
I used Dr Iron twice last year. Soon afterwards, spots where the pellets landed turned brown. This year I noticed that the moss has been weakened by the product, but not elimimated.

Is the iron in a chelated form so it can actually be used by the plant?

If it is not chelated it will not be as effective so you have to use much more product. The iron cannot be absorbed readily into the plant.
Asked by: sooners58
Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We reached out to MFG for more information and below is their response. "Ours is not in a chelated form. How we put ours together is to mix the 22% iron with 55% sulfur in a molten form. Which then creates thousands to tiny metal oxide particles in a given granule. When the granules come in contact with the soil moisture they shatter and disperse converting from the oxide form to the plant available sulfate form. Hope this helps." What is the effective percentage of iron if applied to more than 6,000 square feet?

I understand the contents of one bag are 22% iron with a coverage of "up to" 6,000 square feet. If I spread one bag on 12,000 square feet, does that make the effective iron application at 11%? Said another way, if I spread one bag on 3,000 square feet, does that make the effective iron application at 44%?
Asked by: Scotty
Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We reached out to MFG for more information and below is their response. “. Always read and follow the label. If apply correctly you will get 22% iron over the 6k sqft. If you have 3k sqft then apply only ½ of the bag and if you have 12k sqft then you need 2 bags. So the answer is yes if you apply one bag over 12k sqft then the amount of iron is half." Thanks The Home Depot User Generated Content Team

spreader setting

Does anyone know what setting I should use to spread this at a rate of 3.5 lbs per 1000 sq ft? I have a Fertilome 40 lb spreader.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from dry lawn patches after some online research i decided to use dr. iron on a few spotty dry patches in an otherwise green lawn. within 4-5 days the dry patches had improved to the point that the rest of the lawn was able to spread. for my lawn (Bermuda) ...i'd recommend and will keep a bag on hand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly What My Lawn Needed First of all you need to know if iron is what your lawn requires. If that is true then Dr. Iron Lawn Pellets are an excellent delivery system for long term replenishment of iron to the soil. I've used liquid iron solutions in the past, which give immediate results, but don't provide what the soil really needs. Set your spreader to a lower number because these pellets are small and flow quickly. At this price you don't want to spread it too quickly and not have enough to treat the whole area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like no other. I have used alot of products to green up my lawn. This Dr. Iron works like no other product. I got the greenest lawn out of the neighborhood. You can't go wrong using this product at all. You apply it and water and thats it. Give it about two weeks or less to see results. Turns that yellow grass into the greenest. It doesn't burn your lawn at all. I recommend this product to anyone. I will buy again and again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product!!! This product was super easy to apply and it didn't leave any stains on the concrete. The best feature is that is organic, so it is safe for kids, pets and the enviroment! I saw results after one week. The yellow, necrotic grass (St. Augustine) turned green and beautiful... I'll for sure keep using this product and recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product My lawn was turning Yellow i believed for lack of Iron in the soil as i live in an area with very Alkaline soil. The Dr Iron Lawn pellets were easily spread with a Hand spreader and completely disolved into the soil within a week. The lawn is starting to green up even amidst a record Breaking heat wave and none of my concrete was stained in the process.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Killed moss in yard after first rain. Yard turned bright green and it killed the orangish brown moss after the first rain. Looks good so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from safe and effective product I was looking for a product that would effectively green up my lawn and help control fungal disease / brown patches. This product has done a wonderful job and one bag covers 6,000 square feet and lasts up to 29 weeks which is an added bonus. I also needed a product that was safe. And unlike Ironite (which has had multiple studies and has been show to be extremely hazardous to your health) this product is safe to use and does not break down into Arsenic like Ironite does. It is also made from organic materials and is certified to be organic. So from the safety factor to the fact that you can get so much out of a bag (6,000 sq ft worth) and it last for a long time makes this an obvious choice. And most importantly, it works very well with just one application. The only downside is that you cannot buy this in a home depot store, it is an online item only. I hope they decide to carry it in their stores soon!
