Customer Questions & Answers

Is this the same as evaporated sea salt?

Need it for my koi pond...
Asked by: LadyHawke
Morton® Pure and Natural water softening crystals are produced from solar evaporated salt at various manufacturing facilities. Additional details for use of sodium chloride (salt) products in a koi pond are below: •For fresh water tanks, the use of Morton® Canning and Pickling Salt is best as it is additive free. •For marine (sea water) tanks, a special blend of salt and minerals is often used. ◦The blend is usually available in pet stores. ◦We do not recommend salt alone for marine tanks, as the fish require trace minerals that are not in the salt. A reputable pet store or a local veterinarian should be consulted to make sure that the best product is purchased for the fish.

How much salt & chlorine do you need to add to the water system in a house that uses well water? How often?

House is located in Lehigh Acres Florida.
Asked by: Shirin
The approximate recommended usage for Morton water softening salt products is 2 bags every 2 months depending on water hardness level of 15gpg, 100 gallons used per person, per day, and softener regeneration cycle after 24,000 grains removed. Actual number of bags may vary based on water softener model and age.

I bought a bag six months ago and poured it in without looking. It was so dirty I had to wait until the level went down then drain the softener tank and clean it all out. Then I thought I'd give it another chance. I bought two bags a month ago and they were as clean as snow. Today I just returned two bags after opening one of them and finding it was dirty. I'll either look into another of their products or switch brands. Morton -- get with it!

Have been using this for at least 8 years. It doesn't bridge or clump which will effect the conditioning factors. This salt was highly recommended to me by an expert in water conditioning. The easy carry handle is a huge plus. The 40lb bag makes for easy carrying and dumping it in the brine tank.

Switched from Farm and Fleet pellets with cleaner and softening chemicals to Morton pure and natural salt. The next day I made oatmeal with boiled brita filtered water and my oatmeal tasted so salty. I do not have heart disease -- no hypertension because I use very little sodium in my diet -- always have been health conscious. Noticed immediately a salty taste to my oatmeal and thought it was the oats but remembered I switched to 100% salt. Bad idea. Even though I am organic I am switching back to farm and fleet pellets. Morton is much too salty!
