Can this be mixed with ground dirt?

I have a back yard that is sour when it comes to growing grass. Someone mention if you put sand into the ground it will cut back on parasites and help nourish sour ground. I have put cow manure, calcium lime. worm-cast, miracle ground soil, tiller the ground 3 times and still cannot get grass to grow. So I decided when I re-tiller the ground again that I would put sand down, to soften the ground for my dog,

Oil, Salt, and bleach ruins soil. Someone might have put that on your hard to prevent growth. Call you dept of agriculture and also get a ph test. Worst scenario would be to remove a 6 inches of the top layer and bring in good quality of top soil.

Is this silica?

I need to know it's silica (doesn't fizz in white distilled vinegar) and what the grain is like. Thanks!
Asked by: Liz
It is not silica according to your 'test'. The grain is small, not super fine like some beach sand,

This "desert" sand is essentially play sand without any organic matter in it. I was going to use it to top the soil of some of my potted plants to keep fungus flies away (thinking that desert sand would translate to a larger grained sand that allows for better drainage). This sand makes it very difficult to water the plants since it is slow to let water pass through, and also is so light that it displaces as soon as the slightest drop of water hits it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works wonders I purchased this product to rid my cacti of fungus gnats and it worked wonders. The more important thing is the way Home Depot carefully wrapped the bags so sand did not roll around and spill in the box like another retailer. I love you Home Depot

This sand is a higher quality than what ive previously purchased in 25 lb bag type playground sand. How can sand be higher quality? It is less dusty and farily dry compared to larger bag type sand. The color is also nicer if that matter to you. I purchased it to cover some houseplants and bonsai in order to eliminate fungus gnats, and it seems to have done the trick. Fingers crossed. The only con to this product is the price, about 5x what you pay for "playground"sand, which itself is better than wet garden variety sand. But 5lb covered about 4 houseplants, so definintely worthwhile for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works This sand works for getting rid of fungus gnats. It looks great, too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from small sand packaging I needed just a little bit of simple sand (not beach sand) to add to my planting medium for my carnivorous plants. Unfortunately, the product was not In Store but available online and I needed to wait a few days to pick it up. (that experience was very favorable BTW) Overall, I am happy with the product and would order more in the future.
