I purchased all three sizes of this particular shelf. This one, the 36" inch, is the one I had the most trouble with. It would not stay level because of the flimsy hardware. The purpose of a shelf is to be able to put things on it. This would not even stay level enough to put the lightest object on it. I had to modify the bracket to make it work. The others were better but not great. I would not recommend this product.

I purchased two of these shelves and the 48" one as well. I was hesitant to purchase them because of the negative reviews, but they turned out to be very sturdy; enough to support my picture frames, and a heavy vase also. My husband and I accidentally mounted the first rod upside down causing it to be unstable, which is what probably happened to many people. We are very happy with the finished product.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by mdyank It smells!
It looks great on the wall, although other comments about not sitting level and requiring better wall supports are justified (I put in added wall supports). But the first thing I noticed upon opening the box was the smell--some sort of chemical odor. Goodness knows what this thing is made of that causes it. I've been airing the room out for two weeks and the odor is still there.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by articfire unstable 8 in. x 1-3/4 in. Floating Shelf
I have found this shelf although it looks good is not stable when installed correctly. It has a natural tilt forward and does not hold much weight before the brace begins to bend forward even more. I had keep light non-valuable items on the shelf instead of fearing anything nice would end up falling off.
The company needs to rethink the metal U-brace included to hold shelf up before I would ever buy one again.

Love this shelf. Made a few modifications to create slats to hang my wine glasses. Looks fab! Proud of my handiwork. The shelf came out of the box in perfect condition, with a great espresso finish and ready to hang.

Here is my experence. First, throw away the mounting hardware provided and buy some quality wall anchors. I used a level to draw level lines on the wall. Next, I used the holes closest to the arms as the mounting points to minimize the bracket from flexing and the center mounting hole. I lucked out and was able to hit a stud on one side and used sheetrock mounts for the middle and opposite mounting holes. Once the bracket was mounted, I put the level across the bracket arms and had to tweak them a little to get the arms level.
I installed two of these shelves. After mounting and leveling the bracket, you simply push the shelf onto the bracket and install two set screws to hold the shelf in place. The first shelf installed perfectly. The second shelf had a little movement on one side so I installed a little larger screw I had lying around and that removed all of the play.
When finished, they look great and seem to be failrly strong. I probably have 25lbs. of books on each on them and no problems at all.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by IvySue Hardware is Insufficient
The shelf is nice; looks good. But I have problems with the the shelf staying level - it slopes because the hardware supplied with it aren't sufficient to hold it. I guess I'll need to get toggle bolts to hold it in the wall.

This shelf looks nice enough. However, the anchor screws and invisible bracket are not strong enough to hold the shelf straight, and you either need to buy better self-anchor screws or brackets.
