Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hammy Great shelf but slight damage when delivered.
This was the second of a pair of shelves we needed for a bedroom. When received it had slight damage-a split along the side edge -which was easier to cover up myself than to bother with a return and reorder. Otherwise a nice looking shelf!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kidskaboodlenmore works great for our center speaker
We purchase this shelve at our local home depot store in the dark coffee brown tint. My husband put it up for me as soon as we arrived home, took him no longer than 30 to 45 min as most of the issues were finding the studs in our wall and some extra screws for more support, as it only came with 3. The construction of this shelve is pretty good. Its strong enough to hold a old heavy model center speaker and some more. I love the shelve and ordered a 60" one for over our fireplace.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Jscotta Extremely Poor Product!! Please dont waste your money!
Cheap product cheaply designed which does not hold more than maybe 10 ounces. This is what I have come to expect cheap merchandise at exaggerated prices. A common theme.

I can see why so many of these shelves arrive damaged; it wasn't well-protected in its box nor sturdy in construction. Luckily, my 48" espresso shelf was fine (although it basically looks black in most lights).
The 40" mounting rail was straight and easy to get level on the wall. Two of the pre-drilled holes happened to line up with my studs; I drilled another to catch a 3rd stud. The mounting rail only projects off the wall <1.5inches which explains the comments about questionable stability and the challenge of getting the shelf to be level front to back.
The shelf comes with 3 "pre-drilled" holes on top to screw the shelf onto the mounting rail. For this part, I chose to use longer screws, driven at an angle towards the wall, and starting a little farther away from the wall than the pre-drilled holes. I kept an eye on my level as I attached the shelf.
It's solid enough for my purposes, and I'm grateful to have found such a shelf within my budget.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by anonymousreviewer Stay away from this shelf!
I purchased this shelf for my son's room to place things on that we didn't want him playing with. When we opened up the shelf, there was a huge scratch down the bottom middle of it that we didn't notice until opening the shelf. We decided to install it anyways seeing as we do not live that close to a Home Depot to return it. Upon installing the shelf, it looks as if you were to put anything heavier than a stuffed animal on the shelf and it would just fall out of the wall. It already looks that way with just stuffed animals. And like other reviewers said, it is hollow and poor quality. Very poor design. DO NOT waste your money on this product.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ay Love the shelf, when I get one that isn't broken
I had to order this item 3 different times before I received one that wasn't cracked or had major cosmetic damage. Expect to have to return and rebuy multiple times to get the product as advertised.

As the previous reviewer said, the shelf is of poor quality. We had to return the first one because of concealed damage. The second shelf looked fine, but during installation two screw heads snapped off!! Simply drilling into pre-drilled holes to attach to the studs as recommended in the instructions. In looking at the other screws that came with the hardware kit, you can clearly see where the head of the screw and the shank of the screw are connected--not a solid piece and obviously not well connected to one another. Save yourself time and frustration (and the damage to your walls--where the shank of the screws are now embedded), look for a higher quality item.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by cjv9304 Very cheap( price and made)... but you can work with it.
The shelf was an ONLINE item only. It arrived and was damaged, but not the the point to where I wanted to return it to the store and wait for another to arrive. The shelf itself is make of VERY THIN compressed wood and a portion of it was bent (thats how flimsy it was). I read the review before buying and knew this was going to take some TLC to make work. We did NOT use the hardware that came with it, but purchased some quality screws instead. We were able to hit a couple studs for stability, but without that, I am not sure it would have held much weight. I am still kinda waiting for it to fall, but so far so good. So it's up and holding a couple items with some weight to them. I think it looks nice- as long as no one touches it, we should be good. :) For the $34 price tag for a 48" shelf, I'd says it's worth what you pay for.
