How to install and adjust.

Got two installed on an 8ft door that has 4 hinges to replace older spring hinges on the top and the bottom. They don't want to hold the spring tension. How do I adjust? No instruction slip inside the package.
Asked by: Jo2go
I have 2 adjustable hinges on my door to the garage. The tension needs adjusting. The hinges were put on my house in 1985 when I built the house. There are not any holes to put in a Allen wrench to hold the tension they have now. How do I adjust the tension. Thanks in advance for your help. PS There are 2 adustable hinges top and bottom with another type in the middle on a 8 foot door.

How many needed for a door with 3 hinges?

We are looking at these for the door coming into the house from the garage, so not a real heavy door. It has 3 hinges on it. Would one of these be enough, or should I put 2?
Asked by: tkcas01
I would recommend two, top and bottom. After almost 19 years in our house, the springs broke in both hinges, several months apart. Even with one spring, the door still closed, but not as well as with two.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of my time This National N184-622 is a 43" Spring Hinge with 5/8" radius corners. The box says detailed installation instructions inside. No instructions were provided. The web site for National had the same problem; no instructions. I installed this after reading about some similar types. I adjusted it two clicks for a 90 degree door opening and it doesn't hold that tension. It snaps loudly and releases the tension when you start to open the door. Probably a manufacturing assembly problem. Guess where it's made? I wonder if I'll see this review soon ?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed perfect fit It's kind of funny... the two hinges that were originally on the door between my house and the garage always bugged me, always closing while I tried to bring things into the house. They finally wore out not closing at all. Then the door was never closing and letting cool air escape through the garage (not good) Also this is a fire door which means it is supposed to close on it's own. I replaced them with the new hinges I found on the Home Depot web site and all is back to normal again. They are a safety feature and a requirement. They also keep car fumes from getting into the house. They fit perfectly in the hinge cutouts that were already existing. They even provided screws that were slightly longer which made them fit tight in the existing screw holes which is good because this is a heavy door. The installation took minuets ( do them one at a time) Best price I found for them online and free shipment to Home Depot for pick up with a call the day they arrived. Great service

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Radius was wrong THis product appears to be fine for what it is--however, it was difficult to figure out whether the radius of the hinge was appropriate for my door and it turns out that it is the wrong one, so I will need to return it. Make sure that you know that it is a fit before purchasing!
