Existing 5x5 post with mounting for fixture 71" wood

Will this version vinyl post slide right over the existsting wood post?
Asked by: jaa52
Doubtful. I measure the interior dimensions of the upper vinyl sleeve as 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 with rounded, not square, internal corners.

It is easy enough to put together and customize to the height you need, if that is necessary (it was in my case.) My only real issue is the small amount of glue they provide, which just isn't enough to be confident that it will last for many years. I happened to have a can of Oatey PVC glue and primer lying around and used that after quickly running out of the provided tube. Held much better and I know will last longer than what was provided. I would save yourself some trouble and buy a small can of PVC glue for a couple of bucks and do the job right the first time.

I installed 4 on our previous property along our long driveway. In our new home (another long driveway - why ask why), I've installed 5. The setup is simple and durable - an 8 ft PT 4x4 three feet into the ground, and then the assembled vinyl sleeve slips over it and the wiring. I didn't set the post in 2 bags of cement as the directions recommend - putting a 160 pound ball in the ground just sounds like asking for trouble if I ever had to move anything. Used a post hole digger to get down 3 feet (well below our regional frost line), tamped the ground down hard around the wood post and never had a problem in 5+ years (including 1 hurricane and one "super-storm"). The vinyl sleeve is thick and durable, no signs of weathering. I attach the top crown with a couple of exterior grade screws instead the of glue that the instructions recommend in case I ever have to take it off for any kind of maintenance. When you place the wood post, think about orientation - I install mine with the face parallel to the Belgian block lining the driveway edge. Take along a level to make sure the wood post and then the vinyl sleeve are both truly vertical. And then enjoy the look!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice light post I looked at cheaper priced aluminum posts and didn't care for them, this one was little pricey but much better looking and matched the vinyl accent fence, it came ups in two days and assembly took all of 30 minutes, the instructions tell you to apply generous amounts of glue during assembly..if you do you will run out of glue before you finish, I predrilled the top then added screws not wanting to trust the glue to hold the top on with a $90 light mounted on it, A little white caulk will hide the screws, The wife is happy with it. thats what matters

Rated 5 out of 5 by from paul The post are very easy to assemble and attach to the 4x4 cemented into the ground. The hard part is digging the hole, but the results are worth the effort.
