I have some exterior synthetic stone made of concrete that color needs touched up as clay dirt stain on stone. Can this be used with water and sponged on the synthetic stone to touch it up some as synthetic stone just has a dye in it and if you spray wash--the dye comes off. Would this product work just with water as a paste to dye some of the stone?
Asked by: terri
No, this can not be used with water and sponged on the synthetic stone.

Customer Reviews

2 lb. Tan Fade Resistant Cement Color is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great - Make Sure and Add Enough When ever using concrete color I always use double the suggested amount, never more than the max allowed. After mixing, the color appears MUCH darker than the finished product, but once it dries, the color lightens up quite a bit. A common issue DIYers have is they add just enough color to match the color they want. The problem is once it dries, the color lightens up dramatically, so it appears washed out or really faded. If you hosed down a typical gray concert slab it would go from light gray to dark gray once the water soaked in, which is a huge change in the color. So make sure you add enough color to darken it, so when it dries you will end up with the color you want. Side Note / Example: I saw a review where someone had added a half bottle of black to a 90lb bag, and they were upset that the final color was not a true black?!?!?!? it would probably take 4 bottles to even get it close. I ended up using (3) bottles of this for each 90lb bag of concrete and it came out perfect. Use as little water as you can, use the exact same amount of water for each bag, and be VERY careful if you are mist curing the concrete as that added water will have an effect on the color. BUT this is true of every manufacturer. New Look also sells a stain in the same colors as the integral colors which works great for "refreshing" the Color or if you did not use enough color initially, the stain will fix that. Great Product!

Tried this product due to the discontinuation of the secrete buff cement color. Works well and is also a dry mix not a sloppy mix with water then add to concrete or mortar. time will tell how well the color holds up but so far it has performed well. Should be available in stores as if you miscalculate the amount needed you will have to put the job on hold while waiting for the product to be shipped.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from wirked well for coloring, was burnt red however It's impossible to get tan with this product. Used grey mortar as suggested. Tested different ratios to see what would work, ended up with a burnt orange color when used for mortaring. Thin layers dry lighter for some reason. If you want tan mortar, use white Portland cement and mux in fine, clean sand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good results at much lower concentration Gave me a nice tan color with a tone similar to the slumpstone block we have around. I mixed at 1/2 lb per two 60 lb sacks of quickcrete. The best way I found to get an even color was to start the mixer, add about 1/2 the water, then the color, then the concrete, then enough water to get the texture right. It would be very pricey at full strength, but pretty economical at this concentration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great. Colors well. This product mixes and colors well. I didn't measure it out as I am trying to have varying colors throughout my pathway so that made it easier as nothing has to match. I am very happy with the results.
