How many 80 lb bags of quickcrete will the 3lb color do

How many 80 lb bags of quickcrete will the 3lb color do
Asked by: Mike
The manufacturer suggests 1 lb of color per 80 lb bag of quikcrete. However, depending on the color YOU want, using more than 1 lb. will achieve a darker red and using less will leave you a lighter red. If you are going for a deep red color, you could easily use 3 lbs per bag of Quikcrete. Keep in mind that the color you see when the concrete is wet, is NOT the final color as it will lighten up a lot when it dries. Think of how much lighter concrete is when it is dry, versus wet, without any color used. WATER CONTENT: The amount of water used, batch to batch, MUST remain consistent! If it does not, the final color will vary. High water content causes concrete to appear pale or “faded”. In other words, use as little water as needed. If you require a more workable product, use a water-reducing admixture instead of adding water. (Home Depot stocks a product by Rapid Set's Concrete Pharmacy called "Flow Control"). FINISHING: Do not wet finishing tools or brooms or sprinkle water on surface. Do not sprinkle pigment or cement onto the surface. Rotary, dry broom pattern or rough finishes usually cure more even-colored than smooth-troweled finishes. Uneven curing equates to uneven drying, which equates to uneven color. Cure colored concrete with NewLook® Cure & Seal™ or other NewLook approved cure and seal. CURING & SEALING Wetting the surface may result in spotting. Use of NewLook® Cure & Seal™ or other NewLook-approved sealers can reduce the need for wet curing. Other curing methods, such as water curing or plastic sheets will cause discoloration. With all that said, unfortunately, the exact amount of any manufacturer colorant needed per bag, is not as easy as just giving a number. Go to GetNeLook dot com for more information. Hope This Helps!

Highly Suggested Reading! When ever using concrete color I always use double the suggested amount, never more than the max allowed. After mixing, the color appears MUCH darker than the finished product, but once it dries, the color lightens up quite a bit. A common issue DIYers have is they add just enough color to match the color they want. The problem is once it dries, the color lightens up dramatically, so it appears washed out or really faded. If you hosed down a typical gray concert slab it would go from light gray to dark gray once the water soaked in, which is a huge change in the color. So make sure you add enough color to darken it, so when it dries you will end up with the color you want. Side Note / Example: I saw a review where someone had added a half bottle of black to a 90lb bag, and they were upset that the final color was not a true black?!?!?!? it would probably take 4 bottles to even get it close. I ended up using (3) bottles of this for each 90lb bag of concrete and it came out perfect. Of course I was going for the same color red as the bottle, not a faded version. Use as little water as you can and use the exact same amount of water for each bag. Be VERY careful if you are mist curing the concrete as that added water will have an effect on the color. BUT this is true of every manufacturer. Newlook also sells a stain in the same colors as the integral colors which works great for "refreshing" the Color or if you did not use enough color initially, the stain will fix that. Cheers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Concrete stain. Works very well, a little sprinkled on top of wet concrete will do the trick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great. This product mixes and colors well. I didn't measure it out as I am trying to have varying colors throughout my pathway so that made it easier as nothing has to match. I am very happy with the results.
