Use on ground?

I wanted to create a box that I could put soil and mulch in for my hanging bird feeders. I wanted the shepherd's hooks to go through the dirt that is in the box and into the ground below. I'm tired of sweeping birdseed off the patio but I didn't want strange plants growing in my yard if I put the shepherd's hooks in the grass. I have arthritis and the wooden boxes I used to build and the concrete trim are no longer options. Has anyone used this just to hold dirt and not plants? If you use it on a patio for plants, does the weight of the dirt not put undue pressure on the patio and cause cracking in the concrete

Answer:
You can hold just dirt, since the box needs dirt for the plants to grow. You could just put in the dirt and not the plants. The weight will not be that much to cause cracking in the concrete below.

It is HDPE for the boards, which are recycled shampoo bottles and milk jugs. The grids are made of recycled car bumpers.

Answer:
We do not set the prices, Home Depot does. I am not sure why the largest one is less expensive than the smaller one. They all have the same features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Raised Garden Bed for around my deck It is excellent quality, looks beautiful around my deck and was very easy to assemble. I love them, and I can no longer see the messy lattice surrounding my deck. I have a variety of options for planting as well. I highly recommend them!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice apperance, maintenance free, great warranty The kit came well packaged with all part included. Assembly was much like connecting Lego pieces together. There was no Instructions Manual included but given the fact how easy it was to put together, I really didn’t need any instructions. First connect all 4 (long and short) sides using the corner brackets and secure them with the included plastic pins, then simply push the base grill in the dedicated holes and finally attach the corner caps. It took less than 10 minutes to put together. It came with a drain sheet (transparent color) that has micro punctures in it to allow the excessive water flow and to restrain fungus issues. Once filled with soil, you will not be able to move it around, yes you can push/pull an inch or two but I do not believe you can lift it and move it here and there. First decide where you want it be placed, then set it up and place it fully leveled. It does not require any maintenance, all plastic, easily washable, no need to stain, no crack or splinter issues and comes with 10 years warranty. In my opinion, It’s a great fit for decks, patios, front porches and porticos. I have placed it on my patio where it gets full sun. It looks very nice and the color goes well with my patio pavers where it houses my Garden Mums. To fill it up, I used potting soil 64 quarts, one bag was more than enough to fill it up. With 43” room, I can plant plenty of vegetables which I so look forward coming spring. All in all, it’s a nice planter with great appearance and 10 years awesome warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to assemble, beautiful planter, maintenance free I had always wanted to have my own flower garden but limited space on the deck had restricted me but this planter fits my needs just perfectly. First of all, it was simple to assemble. I am not handy but had no trouble assembling it. It did not come with any Manual but the product page at Home Depot web site had the Installation Guide link. I opened that on my iPAD, followed the instruction and all went well. The planter came with a perforated sheet that needed to be placed above the grid that keeps the soil from spilling out and helps water flow. It works well on the outer edges of the planter (close to the piers) but not so well in the middle portion if the ground is uneven as there is nothing to secure the grid with the midpoint area of the long boards. Being light weight, I was easily able to move it around by myself to find the best location for it and finally placed it between the steps and my bistro set. The color of the planter goes really well with the stain on my deck and with that it has added a beautiful touch to the surrounding of the seating area. Since the Halloween is not too far, I’ve planted yellow mums with garden soil and they are growing really well. It does not require any maintenance, stays clean, no discoloration and no mess of any sort, simply beautiful. I sure recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very nice garden kit This is a very nice, well constructed small garden kit that would be suitable for just about anywhere. This kit does have a base so it could be set on concrete but keep in mind that water will seep through the soil and eventually drain through the bottom. It is true that the kit does not come with assembly instructions however it is very simple to put together. I included a photo to assist with the order of assembly. A couple tips to point out is make certain to lock the base plate panels (1) together and don't forget to place the drain sheet (2) before installing the side walls. I am impressed with the construction. A very rugged wall system that should never bow outward from the dirt weight inside the garden bed, and the base plate design that basically locks everything together. The pleasant colored composite wood material should outlive me! I really like this garden kit and will be used throughout the growing season.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, Sturdy and Easy! I needed a planter to put on the patio so that my very inquisitive dog would not be able to go through the bars of the patio on my upstairs deck. This is the perfect size. It will be once I get a couple more pots to put on each side. As soon as I get the other pots, I'll be planting herbs in it. Special note: The bottom is a hard plastic "mesh". I am going to put a plastic bag on the bottom to prevent leakage of both soil and extra water. This was super easy to put together. There were no instructions in the box. This was not a hindrance at all. All of the parts basically "snap" together. I am including pictures to provide a good barometer of the width and height of the planter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from GOOD SIZE PLANTER This product is the very first I have ordered from Home Depot that came without paper of any kind. No assembly instructions, no product information, no inventory slip....nothing! In the Home Depot online description, it is called, “Ultrashield Technology which is a capped composite lumber”. Whatever that means, it feels like plastic even though it is heavy. And Peruvian Teak looks like dark brown wood textured plastic. The assembly is not difficult once you figure it out. Just remember to lay the aeration sheet on the bottom before you attach the sides. After we got the kit assembled, I really like it! It is attractive, hefty and sturdy. I am going to plant red bell peppers in it. Can't wait!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the right size for my herbs Simple to put together. Only took about ten minutes just like advertised. Looks great sitting out back. Made of high quality rot resistant material that should last for years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase As an 84-year old lady I am truly excited with this purchase and am considering getting another for another part of my yard. I was able to put together by myself and it looks beautiful. I especially like the grid system and the perforated sheet that keeps the soil in and the water can drain out plus the short feet that keep it slightly off the ground. Did not find these features in other items looked at.
