Customer Questions & Answers

Does it work with LED or fluorescent bulbs?

Asked by: Charlie
Yes. We have a 100w LED bulb installed in our yard light for security and rest comfortably in the night since there are very few street lights in our community.

What size hole is needed to install this in a post? Will it fit in a standard light post?

Asked by: AndrewsDad
It will fit a standard power socket hole. If you wish to drill another hole use a 1 3/8" hole saw. This is what I did as I want both a power outlet and a photocell on my pole.

You need a hole saw to do it, of course. The sensor worked well. I read a review that there was a long delay before the light would turn on, but after blocking the sensor the light came on within 3 seconds. I installed this sensor 2 days ago for a friend, so I do not get to see it working on a daily basis. It worked as was advertised and met my expectations. It looks good & seems sturdy. The body of the sensor takes up some room inside the post, but there was enough room for the wires and, in this case, there is an ac receptacle as well, but all fit neatly. It would have been nice for the sensor to have a gasket, but it fit tightly against the pole. NOTE: Be careful of the wires inside the post as you drill that 1-3/8" hole!

Repeatedly, the lamppost light beside my driveway would not coming on at dusk. I would reset the GFCI outlet that it was wired through, and it worked normally again. Next day, same thing, same fix. I thought it was the GFCI outlet, but something I read suggested it was the lamp photosensor. I bought this replacement eye, it works like it's supposed to now, day after day.

Easy to install, and despite what others have said, lasts a reasonable period. Particularly given the low cost. This is my second one and the first did break, but after three plus years and I did move it from one side of the post to the other. It was working until I worked with it.

THis new one has a connector on it. The sensors last 5-10 years. Hopefully if it ever goes again they will have the same connector so that I don't have to hassle with the wiring so much. Now itworks just fine.

It would be great if the connector plugs were the same so new unit could just plug into the harness already in the post. I had to take off the old plug and wire in the new plug because they were not the same.
