Customer Questions & Answers

Does it work with LED or fluorescent bulbs?

Asked by: Charlie
Yes. We have a 100w LED bulb installed in our yard light for security and rest comfortably in the night since there are very few street lights in our community.

What size hole is needed to install this in a post? Will it fit in a standard light post?

Asked by: AndrewsDad
Yes, it fits in a standard lamp post. Has the curvature to mate to the cylindrical post. I didn't use a gasket this time, it fits pretty tightly without it.

You need a hole saw to do it, of course. The sensor worked well. I read a review that there was a long delay before the light would turn on, but after blocking the sensor the light came on within 3 seconds. I installed this sensor 2 days ago for a friend, so I do not get to see it working on a daily basis. It worked as was advertised and met my expectations. It looks good & seems sturdy. The body of the sensor takes up some room inside the post, but there was enough room for the wires and, in this case, there is an ac receptacle as well, but all fit neatly. It would have been nice for the sensor to have a gasket, but it fit tightly against the pole. NOTE: Be careful of the wires inside the post as you drill that 1-3/8" hole!

However, the wiring sequence was not the same as shown in the picture and I did not know how to rewire. First, the advertised picture SHOULD match the product. Second, buyer needs to verify that the wiring matches his original equipment if he expects to just plug it in and be done. If buyer is competent to change the wiring, this appears to be a good replacement unit at a good price. I only rated one star because I had trusted the picture to be accurate and it cost me two trips to buy and return, so, I am NOT happy.

Repeatedly, the lamppost light beside my driveway would not coming on at dusk. I would reset the GFCI outlet that it was wired through, and it worked normally again. Next day, same thing, same fix. I thought it was the GFCI outlet, but something I read suggested it was the lamp photosensor. I bought this replacement eye, it works like it's supposed to now, day after day.

THis new one has a connector on it. The sensors last 5-10 years. Hopefully if it ever goes again they will have the same connector so that I don't have to hassle with the wiring so much. Now itworks just fine.

I would only recommend this product if it is an exact replacement for an existing photo eye. The instructions didn't state what size hole needed to be drilled therefore had to be returned. This would be a really large hole to drill in a metal post.
