Answer:
Bill, I'm sorry but I can't answer that. Not being an electrician and understanding all the particulars, I can only say that I'm using my photo eye with the curly compact florescent bulb and it works just fine.

I hope this helps.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 30 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install Piece of cake to install this. And all I know about "electricity' is "on and off". August 13, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Fails annually and must be replaced Just installed third photo cell in outdoor lamp. This time I saved receipt and old photocell installed July 27 last year and it went bad in just under 50 weeks. Powered three small florescent candelabra type lamps in outdoor fixture. Replaced today with new photo cell from Home Depot and replaced florescent with LED to see if florescent was cause of failure of three previous photocells including the original that came with fixture. Checked extensively for water or other damage to photo cell and found clean. Also photocell is out of direct sunlight (facing North in NJ) PS rate good for appearance since Home Depot in my area only carries black and we have a white pole and fixture. If there is a space for my email in submission manufacturer or Home Depot can contact me since I have two of the failed units. July 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great Worked perfect. I did think I was just going to be able to use the plug and not do ANY wiring, but the connector didn't fit so I had to wire in the provided connector. August 2, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product. Installed it about a month ago and is still working. The old one I replaced went out and wouldn't shut the light off. June 24, 2016
