Would you recommend the product? A qualified yes. Unlike other people who have complained, We have had one of these in our kitchen for about three years. The biggest complaint I get about it is from company. If they stand in front of it, their butt triggers the lid. It can get them upset. I have found at time the sensor seems to fail. But hitting the close button and then hitting the open seems to work all the time. If it doesn't, a repeat of the process takes care of it.
My wife complains about the odor. I think that's because the lid fits very well and may seal in the odors. The open of the lid fans the fumes into the air. Scented bags are probably the answer or perhaps even sticking a deodorizer to the lid.
As mentioned by others, bags fit well. The retainer ring at the top is a nice touch and does a great job keeping the bag in place. My wife like to take the can out and hose the thing down once in a while. Again the odor thing. I can't convince her that the way the bag fits, there's no way food could get into the can itself unless the bag breaks.
While the shell is stainless steel and other components are plastic, thee is one part that can be the weak link. That is the hinge pin in the lid. It is made out of ordinary steel and will corrode or rust over time. If this happens the lid will only partially open and if it gets bad enough, it won't open at all. If your lid is only partially opening, take a look at the pin. If you see rust or corrosion, take the lid off. Remove the batteries. Spray a little penetrating oil around the pin. You won't need to much. Wipe off the excess. Work the lid manually a few time to work in the penetrating oil and free the mechanism up. Reinstall your batteries. Replace the lid and you are back in business.
I see people complain that they wave their hands over it and it won't open. I find the sensor to be pretty good. It works better when something is held stationary above it... Not waving or fluttering. The optimum distance for the sensor's function is about 6 to 8 inches.
Try the above and I think you will find that this is an excellent product and a great value.

I received this product as a gift. I was thrilled it was exactly what I wanted and it worked perfectly for a few months. But then it stopped working. I followed all of the troubleshooting tips on the company's website with no results, so I began my attempt to contact them for a warranty replacement. No dice. You contact Nine Stars Products who tell you it's not their problem you need to contact Nine Stars Group USA, and the latter company is completely unreachable. Bottom line: if you buy this product it will work for a short time and then stop working and you will need to buy a replacement - the company will not honor any warranty they advertise.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NAGA Lid stops working after few days,
After using just few months, the LID started acting weird, finally it died. IF you call customer service they as us to SHIP the lid with our own cost to CA, we live in East coast, after discussing with the rude customer service we gave up.
WE NEVER RECOMMEND ANY NINE STARS PRODUCTS TO ANYONE. AS THEIR WARRANTY DOESNOT REALLY HELP ANYONE.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by HarrisG Read the negative reviews before purchase
I should have read all of the customer reviews before purchasing this can. It is a bit flimsy for the price. The problem is the hinge of the lid made of cheap plastic. It broke just in just 3 months. You have to buy special bags in order to fit the uncommon height (too tall for most bags) of the trash can. Not worth the money. Returing mine..

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MankyMoodle Great for busy kitchens
I purchased this trash can for my parents as a Christmas gift. They have obliterated several foot press cans over the past few years. After only a couple of weeks, they are very happy with their new touch-free can. The product is well built; the stainless is high quality; and all the components functioned perfectly as soon as we put in the batteries (takes C's not D's, despite what the manufacturer website states). This is a great trash can for my mom's busy kitchen. She makes a lot of family dinners and this can opens and closes consistently. Compared to other stainless trash cans, this one is a great value. The only problem I found is that it freaks out our cats when they walk by and it opens automatically :)

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by R1ch Will not last, see others negitive reviews.
I purchased this a year and a half. It gets lesser use than a family would as it is just the 2 of us. It no longer works, the door will not open even with new batteries and the sensor is intermittent. Otherwise it is a great unit when it works. Manual open and close is a nice feature.
For the asking price to only operate for a year and a half is not good enough for me to buy another. Bought one for brother, it no longer works as well. If it would continue to work for say 3 years, it would be worth buying another.

The can was supposed to open and close with infra red technology, The first one I got didn't close all the way over half the time and you would have to close it manually to get it operational again. So I took it back thinking I had just got one bad one. Well the next one did the same thing. I sent it back also.
It just did not work like it was supposed to.
