Nice heavy casting, quality mechanics, factory sharp is actually sharp. Cut 64th thick paper from the factory edge. Base is square and true. Handles are well made and have a nice fit. I've got 20 hrs or so on it and I've just recently put the iron on the Tormek and with a pass or two she's back to razor sharp.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dave Love this plane. Well made and the adjustments are unique.
Loved the additional reviews by previous purchasers. Could not afford a "high end" place and decided to give this a try. For the purchase price, am extremely pleased.

I was hesitant to purchase this plane when I discovered that it is made in Mexico. The tool however is very well built and of excellent quality. The workmanship is as good as any of the previously made Stanley planes that I own.

Ready to use out of the box. Honing is all that will be needed unless you want a slight arch on your iron.

This plane is high quality. I know there are more expensive examples but this is a good one.

This jewel has saved me from having to buy a $1,500+ joiner. I've used this baby to shape concave boards, twisted boards, and concave/twisted boards. It arrived ready to use right out of the box. I made shear shavings without even having to sharpen the blade. Great device and I don't even regret giving $149 for it since the price has now dropped to $119. Although, a $30 savings would be nice.

Mine came with a small machined defect on the side of the throat it isn't very noticeable, and I doubt it'll cause any problems, but still even cheap planes come with clean machining It's ok flat, as in I'll still need to tune it before using it; like any other plane, and you will need to sharpen the blade. It's still a good plane though, but perfect it is not. Just don't get your expectations to high and it's not too bad.

I have a small collection of working hand planes and this little guy is sweet. Fit and finish are great. The extra weight of this smoother surpasses it's No.4 1/2 brethren and really makes for a good reliable plane. The blade and cap iron are well done and only needs a little honing before use, though I do suggest a nice micro bevel to bring a higher attack angle for figured wood. After opening the box it only took 10 minutes to clean the plane and hone the blade to start making shavings. It was practically ready out of the bag. The cap iron is aluminum but that's not an issue, and the Norris style adjuster works quite well. For those with qualms about that they need to read the instructions and not tighten the poor thing so much as to compromise it's features. Once you have the iron set where you are happy....then you can tighten it a bit more.
Altogether I am very pleased with my purchase and have used this plane alot. I'm getting glass like finishes on hard woods and couldn't be happier especially for the price
