It was on Fathers day promotion with a $10.00 discount even though Home Depot could find the promotional discount. Amazon had it at $71.21 with $10.00 off at check out with the promotion. Called Customer service at Home Depot & they discounted it to match Amazon's price with the $10.00 discount. So I purchased it from Home Depot. Rickey

Initially, I thought the sole was out of flat, however, I took it to work and measured it using the equipment there and it was flat to within less than a thousandth of an inch, so it seems the straightedge I initially used wasn't very straight. Tested it right out of the box on a couple of pieces of pine and it makes very fine shavings and leaves a glass smooth finish, so it's plenty sharp. I think this will be a very good item to have in my toolbox. Only giving four stars because I haven't had it that long. My one gripe is the black piece with the Stanley logo is plastic. I had assumed it would be metal. Still, some plastics these days are quite durable. Time will tell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice! Came out of the box square and sharp. You can put a micro-bevel on the blade and take it to the next level of sharp but it was completely fine for my purposes. It shaved hair with zero effort. Do yourself a favor and pull the trigger in this one. You won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My GO-TO-PLANE I work in the service yard at a shipyard. I use this block plane so much it seldom is not on my person. Cuts end grain like a champ, removes saw marks easily, and the iron is great . All and all this is one of my favorite tools I own.... no joke!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lives up to reputation. At this price point I expected a good quality low angle plane that would function for end and interleaving grains. There are more expensive items in the market place but, none with this reputation. At a little less than twice the price for the regular low angle plane this Sweetheart lives up to it's name. The thick tool steel iron is easy to sharpen. There is almost no chatter when in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice tool! Another nice plane from Stanley. I used it to remove saw marks on side grain and it left a very smooth finish. Since it’s heaver than some other block planes and has the thicker A2 blade, it was very easy to use. I was impressed how well it worked on end grain. I've had planes hang up or chatter when taking down end grain, but not with this one. I set the blade depth to about 1/64 inch and took down dowel ends flush to the cabinet surface and board ends (stiles) flush to the joining rail side grain on the top of a cabinet frame. Both applications left a smooth finish. I did however find it a little fussy to setup. It's very important to read and follow the instructions that come with the plane. By doing so will give a good result and no damage to the plane. Also, a little wax on the sole of the plane (any plane) will help it glide across the work piece.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Save sandpaper buy this plane The 60 1/2 is a high quality tool. It came razor sharp out of the box and I used to to smooth cherry edges on a table that I am building. I had never used a high quality plane before. The wood is almost ready to finish after a few strokes with this to remove saw marks. I have never used Veritas or Lie Nielsen planes and I expect they are excellent. But, for the cost of one of those you can buy two Sweetheart planes. Highly recommended.
