Needed a better block plane for a long time. Couldn't justify a L/N or other top end brand. This Stanley is getting pretty good reviews so I got it. Great plane right out of the box. It is flat and square and very sharp. I didn't need to do anything to it to make it usable. I find it a little heavy, but that is a result of its quality. Only downside is is a function of me, I have small hands so it's heft and size make it difficult for me to one hand it. That aside I love it.

I have the Low Angle block plane made by Veritas with 01 steel blade. Great plane. I know the Veritas is a better made plane, but it cost almost 3 times the cost of my Low Angle block plane made by Stanley.
The Stanley plane's sole needed to be worked flat a few thousandths. The Stanley blade in A2 steel is finished very nice and flat. It is thick and sides are square on the one I got. The massive sole plus the great blade make this a good buy for trim work.
I now have all 4 of the new Sweetheart plans made by Stanley. The Low Angle jack I like the most.

The 60 1/2 is a high quality tool. It came razor sharp out of the box and I used to to smooth cherry edges on a table that I am building. I had never used a high quality plane before. The wood is almost ready to finish after a few strokes with this to remove saw marks.
I have never used Veritas or Lie Nielsen planes and I expect they are excellent. But, for the cost of one of those you can buy two Sweetheart planes.

I have used this block plane just a few times since my purchase. It works very well and is easy to adjust blade. The sweetheart series came highly recommended and is well made.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Blaise Great plane for the money
I've had this plane for a couple of months and its been fantastic. It was easy to set up, the sole and blade were pretty close to be being ready to go as soon as I unboxed. It's got great weight, allowing for nice smooth strokes. Great product.

At this price point I expected a good quality low angle plane that would function for end and interleaving grains. There are more expensive items in the market place but, none with this reputation. At a little less than twice the price for the regular low angle plane this Sweetheart lives up to it's name. The thick tool steel iron is easy to sharpen. There is almost no chatter when in use.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bob1 Nice tool!
Another nice plane from Stanley. I used it to remove saw marks on side grain and it left a very smooth finish. Since it’s heaver than some other block planes and has the thicker A2 blade, it was very easy to use.
I was impressed how well it worked on end grain. I've had planes hang up or chatter when taking down end grain, but not with this one. I set the blade depth to about 1/64 inch and took down dowel ends flush to the cabinet surface and board ends (stiles) flush to the joining rail side grain on the top of a cabinet frame. Both applications left a smooth finish.
I did however find it a little fussy to setup. It's very important to read and follow the instructions that come with the plane. By doing so will give a good result and no damage to the plane. Also, a little wax on the sole of the plane (any plane) will help it glide across the work piece.
