I think there is a space between the molded shower stall and the actual bathroom wall as it has some very minor flex in the molded shower stall wall.

Answer:
Hi Floridaretired,
Your fiberglass enclosure is most likely attached directly to the studs, with the remaining space open. Thus the grab bar must be attached only to the studs to be secure.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 134 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great looking Grab Bar True to its advertisement, the installation is easy and straightforward. The instruction is easy to follow, plus the video put out by Draad is helpful as well. At first, I thought the price may be a bit high. But after considering the need and cost of hiring a contractor if this is a screw mount item that needs drilling into tiles, the price is justified. One consideration though, if you have small tiles in your shower / bathroom wall and the sticking surface consists of grout lines, then you may consult with Draad first before buying this item. Draad does not say whether its products would work on surfaces that have grout lines or not. April 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good Install is very easy. MOST IMPORTANT is the preparation of surface. Recommend using wet/dry sandpaper, first a 300 grit then a 600 grit to be sure no surface scum remains on the surface. Then use the alcohol wipes to clean away any remain residue and be sure to let dry. Follow the the included written instructions, watch the video on line available from this German product manufacturer and all will go fine. July 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Total Failure to perform Followed the detailed instructions to a tee. Mounted grab bar detached in second use. Will return product for refund. Very disappointed. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Quality & Easy To Install I had been putting off installing safety grab bars in both of our showers because I did not want to drill into our tile, and our wall studs are metal. These GRIPP grab bars were the perfect solution! I read all of the posted reviews, and noted that most people rated them very highly, so I decided to take a chance and ordered them. Shipping was fast, and all materials were included as advertised. I must admit that I was a bit nervous installing the first grab bar. (I am a 60+ female with limited handy-woman skills!.) However, if you follow the instruction to the letter, and prepare the surface carefully (including sanding the surface with extra fine/320 sandpaper) and using the supplied cleaner, the installation is super easy! The adhesive was very easy to install with no mess. Three tubes of adhesive are supplied, but only 2 were needed for the installation. I did allow an extra 12 hours for it to cure because we live in a very humid area, and I wanted to be sure it was completed dried. After installing the bar and double checking the tightness of the fasteners, the cover plates were easy to affix. I tested the bar and it is very solid and looks nice. The grab bar is a bit pricey, but worth every penny not to have to drill into the wall/tile. I did contact customer service with a question and they were extremely helpful in providing a prompt easy to understand response. I highly recommend the GRIPP grab bar August 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install / Sturdy Needed a bar where electrical was behind wall so we were unable to drill. This bar was easy to install and sturdy. Will purchase a larger on for another wall in the future. February 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what was needed This was much easier to install then trying to find studs behind a tiled wall. Makes a very secure connection as long as the tiles are secure. This is the way to go. February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for application Great for convincing picky landlords to allow us to install needed bars. No drilling. Easy instructions. Video available. Good stuff December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Installation instructions were clear and easy to follow; product mounting process went smoothly without any problem. I mounted two bars on ceramic tiles in a stall shower, one horizontal and one at 45 degrees. The most difficult part of the process was peeling the protective paper off the adhesive mounting plates. One tip I'd suggest for mounting on ceramic tile is to mark the selected tiles after cleaning, I put a piece of masking tape on each tile to insure placing the bar mounts on a cleaned tile surface.
