Answer:
The compressor probably has a fan that blow air over it. Download the Care PDF manual on the webpage, there is probably an exploded view of the compressor. The last one of these I worked on had NO fan but was air cooled by vents in the front and back. Much Like a residential refrigerator.

Answer:
Yes, you need a drain, this is not like the icemaker in your residential refrigerator. This requires a drain with a pump. This is NOT clear so beware, the ice flow over the plate where it freezes, the ice drops down into a bin. The water then flows down over the ice into a trough is reused. This unit is for a business that uses ice on a continuous basis.

The ice that's in the bin slowly melts and is pumped away. It's a real expensive water user unless you use a lot of ice daily like a restaurant. Read Less

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 31 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good buy, very good product, very pleased The ice maker is just as described. Simple to hook up, went right to making ice and still is. It's a little noisy, but not bad. Truly enjoy it and the buying experience. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good product and good price We had been searching for an ice maker that was good quality with a good price. It was also easy to install and set up connections all matched the existing ice maker we took out. I appreciate Home Depot working with me to find the right ice maker for my location. The sales rep was very knowledgeable on this product thanks again for the great help March 1, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This ice maker does everything I wanted and hoped it would do. I was replacing a 20 y/o ice maker that you could not find parts for anymore. This new one seems to produce ice faster and with less water than the old unit. It is in more of a 'free standing" position in my kitchen, being at the end of my bar, but I really don't think it is as loud as my old unit. The stainless steel is a nice upgrade, also. I have only had this unit about a month, but it all seems to be a good ice maker at an affordable price. It fit where my old one did and hooked up exactly the same way. January 15, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Ice Maker The product was perfect it was exactly what we were looking for. However, we were not pleased with the drop off. It was delivered to the next next to our house and it was there for 3 days until we found it. Sister TRudy Helder, Philadelphia September 29, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not very good at all. Loud and slow Not sure how it makes 44lbs a day. It make ice slow very slow. When it does it's loud as a car engine and makes sheet ice, not ice cubes. Just a poorly made appliance. September 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great ice machine very fast at producing ice cubes. Does not create as much heat as our previous system. August 25, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by worst ice machine We had this ice maker for 9 months and it stopped making ice. Contacted the manufacturer and they sent out a repair man who replaced the condenser and evaporator. It worked for another 3 months and then broke down again. I called the manufacturer and argued that it was defective. They finally agreed to a "cut cord refund" where by I cut the electrical cord and sent them a picture and they then refunded my money. That is the only good thing I would say is that the manufacturer was fair. June 18, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does a Great JOB! I had to have help getting it installed as the fittings from my previous Ice Maker were different. It certainly makes enough ice and keeps up with my crowd. It is a little noisy at times. The ice cubes have to be broken up often (I use the ice scoop) but overall I am very please. December 17, 2014
