I was looking for a compact combo light & exhaust fan for an alcove shower installation. I liked the idea that it looked like a regular recessed lighting fixture, and it was supposed to be relatively quiet in operation.
Since this was a remodel installation, I needed to climb up in the attic to install. It went very smoothly, but the lack of an included installation template could cause problems if you're not careful. I made my own out of some cardboard from a cereal box, being careful to mark which direction the exhaust duct connection was pointing. Note that the installation instructions (available on this website) made mention of allowing a 1/8" gap between the bottom of the unit and the attic-side of the ceiling wallboard. My unit arrived w/ some foam strips installed around the light/exhaust inlet opening that seemed to force the 1/8" spacing. Even so, I allowed a tiny bit more gap. Also note that, once you adjust the arms that extend from the unit and are nailed to the adjacent ceiling joists, you are supposed to crimp the channels that the arms travel in so they are snug and there won't be any rattling. These 2 things, the gap & the crimping, may be where others who have reviewed this item and complained about the noise went wrong.
Electrical hook-up was very straight-forward. I wish they would've included a cable clamp for the point at which the electrical cable enters the unit, but I had a spare one I used. Also note, if you are installing this directly above the shower as I am, it must be connected to a Ground-Fault Isolation circuit.
The hardest part for me was running the electrical cable through the walls to hook it up to power & the switch. Once that was done, it worked like a charm. The bathroom isn't yet complete, so I can't fully test the installation for getting rid of moisture. For that reason, I've only rated this 4 stars instead of 5. I can say at this point the noise of the fan will not be able to be heard above the noise of the water from the shower itself.
Final note: I think the cost of this unit is a bit high when you look at the actual unit itself. I don't see why it should be so much more expensive compared to other comparable units, but perhaps it's a case of "you get what you pay for".
If all goes well with the full operational test, I will probably be buying another one to install in the other full bath upstairs (kids' bathroom) when I tackle that remodel job.

Goes in fairly easy. Adjusts easily between joists. Nice low profile, and blends in well with other recessed lighting.

I love love love this bathroom fan/recessed light. We installed it in our guest bathroom since we were a little short of ceiling space due to where the shower and toilet were located in the room. It's so quiet, you can barely hear it when it's on. I really wished I had put it in our master bath remodel that we recently finished.
I was pleased that the design allows for the fan and light to be turned on independently of one another. And can I just say how cool it is to walk into a bathroom and not have an ugly bathroom fan grill in your ceiling?!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by signman Very quite exhaust fan with recessed light
I had bought two of these units for the contractor to install when we did a complete master bathroom remodel last year and the only thing we did wrong was let the electrical company talk us out of using both of them, he talked us into using a regular exhaust fan in the shower ceiling. We should have stuck with two of these units as they are so much better looking than the cheap looking plastic covers that came with the one like he installed. He installed one in the toilet room, very quite and looks much better also.

I just installed this in our bathroom and it is very quiet and has a very clean look. Those who have noise issues likely have an unbalanced fan or didn't install it in the best manner. You need to crimp the side brackets after after attaching it to the studs to keep the brackets from rattling. Also you need to space it 1/8" above the drywall to keep the sound from transmitting through the drywall. These are both in the instructions.
I was concerned about the damper not staying closed, like others have stated, until I realized you need to install it in correct direction (which is NOT in the instructions.) The weighted side (with the extra "towers" of plastic sticking out) must be toward the bottom.

Placed this where I had a recessed can light. Fit perfect. U can't tell there is a fan in the bath. It is relatively quiet - but not silent. Does the job in a small bath/shower - less than 70 sq. ft. No steam on the mirror or moisture on the walls when I get out of the shower.
