I purchased this unit because of the 4-speed fan and 3-level lights. Installation was fairly easy (replacing a range hood with same dimensions). My only gripe was that the edge of the panel that covers the light socket assembly doesn't match up exactly with the edge of the main body leaving a small but noticeable gap (see photo).

It is what I expected, and wanted. So far no problem to report. I wish they included the bulbs with it. I would have paid for them.

I was pleased with how easily this fan installed. I upgraded from the base model Broad range hood to this one and was pleased that the mounting screws and vent all lined up perfectly. The fan is pretty quiet on settings 1-2, but the damper makes an annoying rattling sound on levels 2-3 that makes the fan not as quiet as I'd hoped overall. I'm contemplating removing the damper, but want to check with the manufacturer first. Also, I had hoped I could use LED bulbs, but they don't work. They won't turn off all the way. Fan looks nice and obscures your view of the range less than my previous model.

1) Installation was a problem as it replaced a thirty year old device and the newer electrical wiring required a professional electrian. Normally its $130.00 from Sears to install, or $250 if you need a pro electrian to install the Hood in an older kitchen.
2) The Hood fit in to the hole like a hand in a glove but not an easy installation job for beginners. No bulbs came with package and the two "Flood Led" lights were not inexpensive. But what a difference in the look of the food and preparation area, five stars! The fan has several levels but it it the last button that scoops up the smoke and smells from burned butter and frying oil, again 5 stars! The only minor two star catagory was the Hood turn on buttons are the flat push in varitety. In wee early morning there is nothing to grope or to help find the light turn on switch. You end up turning on another kitchen light to turn on the Hood lights.
3)Is this truely an upgrade? For Sure! and well worth the money and minor install problems.

I chose this product because of the "powerful boost mode" 430 CFM. It was one of the more expensive units, but I figured the 430 CFM would be great. Opened the unit up to start the installation, and was very disappointed at the internal build quality. Flimsy, not well sealed, finish where the lights go in is poor (see pic), and I ended up sealing the bad internal joins with duct tape to seal it better. Also added a few layers of duct tape to the internal surfaces to dampen sound levels / stop reverberation. Product has about $50 worth of parts in it - very over priced for what it is. Also, the internal info plate only rates it for 300CFM on max (see pic) setting, so you have to wonder if the "boost" mode is safe to use all the time or if that will prematurely burn the fan motor out. Every time I look at the range hood I'm disappointed to see the gap where the light cover fails to properly meet up with the rest of the hood. Would I do it again? No.

I replaced a 30 year old Nutone model V-80 with a 400 cfm power unit with this new model. The hole in the wall matched up with this new unit's horizontal output duct so it was a fairly easy install. This unit has it's own damper and the opening vent in my wall has it's own damper so there is more resistance to the airflow with the 2 dampers. On the low setting I cannot hear the fan running and it seems to be exhausting a fair amount. On the level 3 setting it pulls out steam and cooking odors very well. I see no reason to use the highest setting. On my unit all joints were neat and tight. The packaging was good and it arrived in perfect condition. You will need a person to help hold it up in position while you attach the 4 fastening bolts to the cabinet above. I just have small 40 watt bulbs in it right now but plan on trying LED floods. I do not know how the light dimming feature will work. The specs do not mention using CFL or LED bulbs. I was surprised that with the increased changeover to the new light technology, there was no mention of these.
