The installation instructions will indicate that the non-duct filter is WA65F, however, we have changed that model to BPQTF which can be purchased on HomeDepot.com. If you click on the More Infor tab you can access the instructions. Thanks, again, for your question. All the best in your decision. Read Less

The NS6530SS is a convertible fan and works in both non vented and vented applications. I suggest that you read the directions completely before installing to ensure that all of the steps required for the non-vented application are noted. It may save time later as indicated in one of the reviews. The unit should flush mount in either application.

Answer:
The vents are for range hoods that are not vented out, the air is circulated back into the kitchen. If yours is vented out, there was a piece that was inserted above this to block the vents.

There is a small rectangular black plastic strip lying in the area of the electrical connection in the range hood when it comes out of the box. I almost missed this entirely. You take it and insert it in the slot just in front of the slotted holes to seal them off. It doesn't fit there very securely, but it does the job. If you already threw away the strip with the packaging, you could probably make a substitute strip out of the chipboard from a cereal box, cut down to size! Read Less

Thank you for your request on the NS6530SS Range Hood. This is a 4-way convertible hood, which means you have the option at the time of installation to go ducted (vented to the outside) or non-ducted. The ducting options are as follows: 3-1/4" x 10" vertical or horizontal, or 7" round. If you choose to go non-duct, then this is where the "slotted holes" come in. Air has to go some where, and in a non-duct situation you are not moving it to the outside. Therefore, the air comes through the front of the unit. Non-ducted units also us a charcoal filter to capture the odors. If you have it vented to the outside, and air is coming through the front, then it indicates that the installer did not install the baffle plate to block that vent. A baffle plate is included with all convertible range hoods. If you have further questions, you may contact our Technical Support Group at 888-336-6151. Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 37 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good range hood for use with CFL light bulbs I bought this brand and model because I wanted to continue using energy-efficient compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs as the light(s) as I did in my previous range hood. This is not possible with 90% of the more deluxe brands and models which use wasteful and heat-producing 50W halogen bulbs. They fit, barely -- it would be better if NuTone made the plastic cover 1-2 inches longer. Fan function seems OK, but haven't put to real use yet. Most challenging part of installation was getting the "transition" to go up inside the existing exhaust baffle. Maybe a little more taper to the transition would have helped. December 6, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Range Hood This range hood is so easy to install. I used the same settings of my old range hood and all I did was took the old and out the new one in. The electrical wirings was so easy that I also did it myself. I just followed the coded instructions and voila, I did it. The only thing I did not like is that it is supposed to be very quiet fan motor but it has this annoying clicking sound when I set it up into the highest level. I already installed it so I did not want to return it anymore into a quieter one. Otherwise, the hood is great, looks great with my stainless range. Great product, great price. January 24, 2008
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product has great features due it have great lighting and a 2 speed fan that will move hot air into the vent quickly. I give this rating on a scale from 1 to 10 a 10. It is very stylish for the appliance that I already have purchased and installed. It was very easy to installed. This product was one of the best appliance that I have purchased in a long time. The sound level is great it appears that it has a built in noise reduction inside. When the fan is on, you can hardly hear it running. We love it in my household. September 5, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by after 10 years daily use, it's working like new Although we have washed the filters occasionally, some grease has settled around the motor and fan. The odor of stale grease is present when near to range. October 15, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by This product has a poor electric motor to drive its fan. We purchased this unit because we had experienced sound performance and reliability from Nu-Tone exhaust products in the past. While the basic framework is similiar to past models acquired, the fan motor squealed when turned on shortly after we put the unit into service. We ended up replacing the unit with a more top of the line "drum fan" model (88000-c) that is performing up to the Nu Tone standard we have been used to in the past. The NS6530SS model failed to meet the company's standard. February 21, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by The only thing I don't like is the amount of light leakage at the seams on both ends. There's also a 1/2 or 5/8 inch hole on the left hand side punched in the top right near the front. Even though the hood as almost flush with the front of the cabinet, light from this hole can be seen. I can't figure out what the hole is for. The reviewer from February 10th apparently forgot to put the baffle in to close off the non ducted vent at the front. I did the same thing and had to remove the hood after installing to put the baffle in. September 21, 2010
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Had to buy a Filter, Not included, for indoor exhaust. After shopping around this fan was the best price .For a stainless steel exhaust fan.Had to buy a Filter, Not included.the indoor exhaust filter was not included.so the total cost was around $240.The Fan is how can I say it, loud,I like the 2 lights.Overall I like the product and it looks nice with my new kitchen. If your venting it outside its around $200.Nothing else comes close to this price.but the sound level is high. February 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The perfect hood for my oven My old hood was seventeen years old. Way past time for a new one. I kept looking for a nice one that would match my silver and black stove. This one looked perfect on line, and when I received it I was very impressed. It took both my brother and I to install it in about three hours. It would probably go faster if you have ever done anything like this before. It is very quiet on the low setting and even on high it is not bad. Easy to remove the filter for cleaning and changing the light bulbs. September 19, 2012
