does this fan have a backdraft damper to stop cold air from entering the bathroom?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, it does have a damper and it is designed to not click in windy conditions.

Will a single on/off switch work this unit? Or will it require rewiring to allow the light, nitelight and fan to be run independent of each other?

I'd like to replace a 20 yr. old simple fan with this unit as I require more light in the room. Current unit used a simple on/off switch.
Asked by: Anonymous
you have to have a special switch from Nutone in order to use a single switch and 5 wires to make it work(white neutral, black hot, blue hot for fan, red hot for light and a ground). You have to have two switches without the special switch. Most house wiring only has three wires for a single switch and 4 wires for two switches on a single circuit. So 99% of the time a rewire will be required to get this fan to work.

Thanks for your question. Here are the dimensions: Grille: 13” x 14”. Housing: 10-1/2” x 11-3/8” x 7-5/8”. This may not work for your replacement. You are welcomed to call our Customer Service Department at 888-336-3948. Thanks, again.

Customer Reviews

QT Series Very Quiet 80 CFM Ceiling Exhaust Bath Fan with Light and Night Light is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't believe wattage for incandescent light A lot to like about this fan. Quiet, functional, nice appearance. Instructions indicate that you can use up to a 100W incandescent bulb, so I installed a 75W incandescent bulb. I now have a nice brown spot on the lens where the 75W bulb has heated it up. I would use a CFL, not to save the planet, but saving the lens might be a desirable outcome. Haven't tried to get Home Depot to replace the lens yet, but I intend to try. What shows up as the bulb and socket in the picture of the lens is a brown spot to the naked eye.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very quiet when installed properly I researched the reviews and was left wondering why the wide range of ratings. Further research led me to the conclusion that complaints of a noisy fan were most likely due to installation related problems than the fan itself. Thus, it is no surprise that a new motor and fan would not result in an improvement. I installed two of these exhaust fans and they are very quiet. What I did find was that the dimensions on the box for the fan housing are incorrect. If you do buy one of these to install as a replacement for an existing fan, Make sure you actually measure the housing. The dimensions are 90° out of sync with the housing. I also suspect the wiring diagram is not correct either. I wired according to the actual part and not the diagram.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan....Quiet and asthetically pleasing!! This fan was a great purchase. I read several reviews where people claimed this fan to be noisy....Either they installed something incorrectly, there is something wrong with their fan, or they are just complainers. This fan is very quiet and when I'm using the sink or shower I can not even tell that it is running. The fan/light is very nice looking and compliments the bathroom nicely. I'm an electrician so the wiring was very easy, for me, and installation was a breeze. I bought this light for my house and will recommend it again to customers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good! The unit has the options I need. I have installed 2 of these and the installation is very straight forward. It's only as complicated as your installation conditions. I have attic space above so access was pretty easy. Pulling extra wire for the switch was easy as the existing conduit was a short run and had lots of space. I did have to add a 4"->3" reducer to fit the existing external vent pipe. Not a problem, just required additional planning and mterial. The unit looks good, performs as described and seems well built. The bathroom is quickly cleared of all moisture without issue. It's pretty quiet and much quieter than the unit I replaced. I don't use more than a 60 watt bulb, even though it states a 100 watt bulb could be used. The 4 watt night light is perfect for those late night excursions with just enough light to see what you're doing without blinding you. I'd give it 5 stars if it was less expensive (<$90) and I don't know how it will hold up over over time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from good features but... Motor is junk, hums and vibrates terribly. More annoying than the fan. Exchanged it thinking I got a bad one...wrong, it was just as bad. Nu Tone had the I don't care attitude. Very poor customer service on their part.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Installed in customer dwelling Installing this unit was quite easy as there was already an existing, and much older, unit that needed to be removed. The new unit was larger so, cutting out the ceiling was not a problem. I did run into a wiring issue and had to call in an electrician. Be sure you know and understand the wiring needs are for the new unit as well as what you already have.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Noisier than expected We bought 2 bathroom fans, one the Nutone and for the other bath in the floor below another fan since the space was too tight in height for the Nutone. Both had the same low noise rating, which was important since the fans being replaced were noisy and not powerful enough. The other brand was very silent as expected; the Nutone was surprisingly noisier. we requested another fan motor from Nutone Customer Service since the fan seemed to wobble a bit when holding it out of the casing. Customer Service was friendly, understanding, and efficient and sent another fan motor . To our disappointment, the replacement was just as noisy. The noise is not unacceptable, but just not as good as the other fan.
