Answer:
There is a damper in the vent outlet opening, but it does not fit very tightly, so some cold air may get past it. I haven't had mine long enough yet to know for sure.

I'd like to replace a 20 yr. old simple fan with this unit as I require more light in the room. Current unit used a simple on/off switch.

Answer:
If you have existing wiring where you have only one switch, you can wire such the fan and light runs at the same time. If you wish independent operation, you will have to rewire. I could not rewire, so I could not use the night light feature.

Hi, Mary. Thanks for your questions about this unit. The short answer is yes, you will have to run extra wires. It would be my recommendation that you get a 3-function switch (model 66W), which will fit into a single-gang box, and then contact our Technical Support group if you have further questions about this installation. Please dial 888-336-6151. Thanks.

Answer:
Hello, Lester. Thank you for your question. The housing dimensions for the QTN80L are as follows: 10-1/2" x 11-3/8" x 7-5/8" in depth. It would appear that you need to increase one side and possibly patch the other. The grille cover is 13" x 14". IF you have further questions and would like to speak with a Technical Support person, dial 888-336-6151. They are available Mon-Fri EST.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 52 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Don't believe wattage for incandescent light A lot to like about this fan. Quiet, functional, nice appearance. Instructions indicate that you can use up to a 100W incandescent bulb, so I installed a 75W incandescent bulb. I now have a nice brown spot on the lens where the 75W bulb has heated it up. I would use a CFL, not to save the planet, but saving the lens might be a desirable outcome. Haven't tried to get Home Depot to replace the lens yet, but I intend to try. What shows up as the bulb and socket in the picture of the lens is a brown spot to the naked eye. July 25, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely Quiet Opertion The exhaust fan is extremely quiet for an 80 CFM fan. The integrated light is very helpful for a night light when quest are staying and using the master bedroom and bath. Will upgrade my other master bath with this model. Would recommend this to all wiho are looking to upgrade or install new. September 28, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by .8 Sones...what does a 3 Sone fan sound like...airplane taking off? We bought the 80 cfm over the 110 cfm because we wanted a quieter fan. This fan is rated at 0.8 Sones and if that is suppose to be quiet, then I would hate to hear how loud a 3 Sone fan is. Given the Sone rating of this fan, very disappointed. Almost sounds louder then the builder quality fan that this replaced....really dissapointed. September 20, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Well worth it!! We love the quietness of this fan. It can run in the middle of the night without waking anyone else up. We also love the night light feature because who needs 75 watts or more of bright light staring you in the face in the middle of the night, We love this. September 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan....Quiet and asthetically pleasing!! This fan was a great purchase. I read several reviews where people claimed this fan to be noisy....Either they installed something incorrectly, there is something wrong with their fan, or they are just complainers. This fan is very quiet and when I'm using the sink or shower I can not even tell that it is running. The fan/light is very nice looking and compliments the bathroom nicely. I'm an electrician so the wiring was very easy, for me, and installation was a breeze. I bought this light for my house and will recommend it again to customers. May 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Whisper Quiet I replaced an old bathroom fan, that sounded like a jet taking off with this very quiet unit. We have mistakenly left it on by mistake because of not hearing that it is still on. The only negative comment about this unit is that the "night light option" is useless unless you have a separate wall switch to turn it on. They should have made it so that when the main light is off the night light automatically comes on. March 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Noisier than expected We bought 2 bathroom fans, one the Nutone and for the other bath in the floor below another fan since the space was too tight in height for the Nutone. Both had the same low noise rating, which was important since the fans being replaced were noisy and not powerful enough. The other brand was very silent as expected; the Nutone was surprisingly noisier. we requested another fan motor from Nutone Customer Service since the fan seemed to wobble a bit when holding it out of the casing. Customer Service was friendly, understanding, and efficient and sent another fan motor . To our disappointment, the replacement was just as noisy. The noise is not unacceptable, but just not as good as the other fan. February 22, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not Quiet At All!! I purchased it because it CLAIMED to be quiet 9only 0.8 Sones). It is very noisy and I would NEVER recommend it. May 1, 2015
