Customer Questions & Answers

What are the ceiling opening dimensions?

We need to replace an existing fan and prefer the new one to fit within the opening that's currently cut in the ceiling. Our opening is 9.5" x 9.5". What size opening does this fan require?
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question. The housing dimensions for this unit are slightly larger. The opening needs to be 10-1/2" x 11-3/8". Would if be possible to make the opening slightly larger without running into any issues?? That might be a consideration. However, if you would like to talk with a Technical Support person, please dial 888-336-6151 and they will be happy to assist. Thanks.

Bathroom ceiling exhaust fan size

I have two small bathrooms they are about 45 CFM's each. I've been considering using a 50CFM unit but I wonder if maybe using a 70CFM would be better or would that be too large and cause some problems. Bathroom are 5'W x 7.5L x 8'H, I used the factor .15 to determine the CFM.

Thank you for your question. Using an exhaust fan with a higher CFM in a 45 square foot bath room is acceptable. I would opt for a unit that is rated a little quieter since it’s a smaller space, but the CFM is fine, especially if this is a full-size bath. To have more of your questions answered, just dial 888-336-3948 and speak with our Customer Service Department. Thanks, again.

for the NuTone Ultra Silent 50 CFM sones Bath Fan Energy Star Qualified fan, how long of an exhaust tube can i use and still get the 50 cfm.

My existing duct is about 16ft to the roof vent.

Thank you for your question concerning model QTXEN050. This unit has a 6" round duct. You can have a pretty long 'run' of duct work on this unit. You can actually go over 30 feet and not loose any performance. That's if you have a straight run of duct-work. For each 90 degree elbow, you would have to reduce your run by 8 feet. If you have further questions about the performance of this unit in your particular installation, you may want to contact our Technical Support people at 888-336-6151.

Customer Reviews

QTX Series Ultra Quiet 50 CFM Ceiling Exhaust Bath Fan, ENERGY STAR Qualified is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Quiet, Kind of Pricey, Not Ideal for Retrofit This fan is so quiet that it is often left on for hours at a time because people don't realize it's running. It would probably be a good idea to use this fan on a timer to prevent excessive running and house depressurization. I used this as a replacement fan, and it did not come with an adapter to fit the smaller older vent ductwork in my house, so I had to improvise something on my own. It would probably be even quieter in new construction with properly sized ducts. The mounting brackets were pretty good, but could only orient the fan in 2 of 4 directions (e.g, north and south, but not east or west). Again, because I was retrofitting this in, I had to work with existing ductwork and electrical, and wound up having to add some framing to make this face the right direction. Overall, a very high quality product, expensive, but you get what you pay for. It would be fantastic in new construction, and is pretty good in a remodel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super quiet! Easy install This Ultra Silent NuTone Bath Fan is everything the manufacturer claims. Very well constructed, mounting framework is adjustable to any structural framework you will have to deal with and when installed you (or your customer) will have to put your hand up to the intake grille to convince yourself it is running. IT REALLY IS QUIET! Looks good too.
