Thanks for your question. The QTXEN110S can be installed from below; however, it must also be ducted to the outside. As long as you can pull wire, and get your duct work to the outside, you will be fine. When you’re on the Home Depot site, scroll down to the Info & Guides section. Answer:
Hi Tana,
This fan must have space for the exhaust to exit to the outside.
Without an exhaust route the fan will not function properly.
The exhaust cannot be directed into the attic, it must be sent to the outside of the house.

Would this fan (NuTone Ultra Silent 110 CFM Ceiling Humidity Sensing Exhaust Bath Fan) work in a washer/dryer closet?

Our washer/dryer is in a closet in kitchen. We have a dryer box and no vent to the outdoors so the closet gets 'sweaty' unless we leave the closet doors open while dryer is in use. Would this fan a) eliminate the humidity problem and b) be effective without any venting to the outdoors?

Answer:
The fan has to vent to the outside to remove the damp air. It would work well in a small area. A vent throught the celiling and out the roof would not be too hard to install and not cost a lot, even if you have a professional do the installation. It could also vent out the side if you are in a 2 story house.

QTX Series Very Quiet 110 CFM Ceiling Humidity Sensing Exhaust Bath Fan, ENERGY STAR Qualified is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not really The fan is quiet but even with a replacement humidity sensor the humidity function doesn't function. Sadly, I had to disable the function so the fan would not run constantly. Too bad, customer service was helpful and friendly. I also have at least two more I want to buy but it won't Nutone. Great idea for the product if they can get it to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this fan I read the reviews - both the pros and the cons. I have not experienced any of the "cons" that others listed - other than it carries a stiff price. However, it's well worth it. This fan does exactly what Broan/NuTone claims. The installation was easy. The wiring was easy. The fan is QUIET! After crawling around in the attic, I was in a hurry to try out the auto-sensing of humidity. I didn't hear it come on. Probably because it was so quiet that I could hear the radio that I have in the bathroom. After turning off the water in the shower, I heard the fan. The mirror was fogged when I stepped out of the shower. By the time I had dried off, the mirror was clear. The fan continued to run for the programmed 20-minutes past the point that the humidity dropped below the sensing level. I highly recommend this fan.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beware The bells and whistles that this fan has are wonderful. Be aware that the wiring does not match the instructions. Therefore even hiring a professional to install this unit will be a challenge. The timer and humidity feature on my unit still won't work. So I don't have the bells and whistles that I thought I was purchasing. Now that it's installed, it's hard to return it!!! Would have suggested another unit, if I had it to over again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to Install, Simple to Operate, Simply Simple I grew tired of fogged bathroom mirrors and windows, and the mold and mildew threat such clinging moisture encourages. The solution was the QTXEN110S Humidity Sensing Bathroom Fan. I recommend going with a 6-inch duct to maximize air flow. The only oddity I encountered was the way in which you activate the fan to exhaust odors; namely: flip the wall switch from ON to OFF, pause for a second or two, and then flip the switch from OFF back to ON. Even with the company’s suggested two-function switch, you still have to flip a switch back and forth. If they had invested an additional fifteen bucks in design and development, they could have offered a push-button solution that would have been more elegant for such a sophisticated unit. And, yes, I would have paid the extra fifteen bucks. That one issue aside, I am very satisfied with the unit’s humidity-sensing feature, near-silent operation, and efficiency

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised Had this installed now for 6 months and it does everything it is suppose to. Used the recommended double toggle switch and followed the wiring schematic provided with no problems except I had to rewire for fan using three wire cable instead of the two wire cable orginally installed in bathroom. Still no problem. Love the way it keeps bathroom mirror fog clear after a hot shower. Great product, well worth the cost.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing Bought two of these units. One was dead out of the box (Figured that out after installation.) The other still works. But it comes on every time the AC kicks on in the house, and that's with the sensitivity at its lowest setting. However, at the lowest setting, it won't turn on when someone uses the shower! VERY quiet - will get it two thumbs up for that. Sounds like I'm the only one with a disappointing review, so YMMV. Great idea, poor execution. Must have two bad units.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet high performance fan is quiet. Turns on & shuts off reliably in response to moisture presence. Put this in a room with shower. Works great. Can be used manually also. Wish it had a timer for the manual switch.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Needs improvement The humidity sensor fan worked great from December to June. Now it turns on randomly. I've tried adjusting the humidity threshold to no avail. So I had to disconnect the sensor and turn on the fan manually. I cannot recommend this product.
