Can I install this in a side wall if it will fit in? I have a very steep and high vaulted ceiling in my master bath, and have had some moisture/backdraft issues. I think a side wall installation may work the best for me. If this is side wall mountable, are there any restrictions on minimum height off the floor? Lastly, which direction would I point the outtake? Can I run it sideways and then vent straight out at 90 degrees? Thanks!
Asked by: Aaron
Not sure if you can from design specs but mechanically that should work.

what is the duct size on this model bath fan (model #XN110, Internet #203620046)?

Asked by: Murray
It says that it can be used with 4 in or 6 in duct, although as I mentioned in my review I think that the 4 in duct would make the fan a bit noisier than using a 6 in duct. It does not come with an adapter.

ULTRA GREEN 110 CFM Ceiling Exhaust Bath Fan, ENERGY STAR is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Fan This is a modified install from a smaller fan to this larger one. My installation started with a change from a 3" output diameter to a 6" one that I purchased. I needed to get the adapters at Home Depot also, a few bucks more but acceptable. Once I had the frame installed, I slid the fan unit in and it locked in place like a dream, then 3 screws to secure. Hooked up to AC and turned on breaker. I flicked the switch on and nothing for about 7 seconds then a nice fan sound. I didn't give a overall rating of "Excellent" because I found no literature on a 7 second delay after turning on. Otherwise nice fan.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Undependable This fan shuts off when you need it the most, works great when there isn't any steam. The grill is a pain to install. You will save energy while it doesn't work. If you run it for more than 2 hours it will shut off on it's own, and seems to take forever to come back on, if this is a feature to the product you'll never know it if you shop and read all the info that comes with it. I don't recommend this for a bathroom, it's sensitive to moisture.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan The fan does install as a retrofit with access only needed from inside the room. If you need to enlarge your drywall opening, do not do it as shown in the picture in the instruction manual (adding the inches only on one side) instead add inches to both sides of the fan so that you can access the screws that hold up your old fan. The fan itself is completely silent when I tested it without it being attached to the duct. But then I attached it to a 3 inch duct and it was very noisy. (I will be making that duct larger eventually.) So after seeing that the noise was coming from the reduced duct size, I moved the duct adapter as far away from the fan housing as possible, and I slathered some soundproofing paint (automotive liquid sound dampener) on everything and that helped to reduce the noise. Even with the inappropriate duct size, it's still quieter than my old fan. It was hard to move the fan in and out of the housing to do these experiments, and that might be because the frame was not perfectly square, although it seemed that it was. So, I just cut off a bit of plastic that was on the edge of the fan body and then I was able to slide it in and out no problem. It takes a while for the fan to get moving so after flicking the switch a person may think it's not on, but then in a minute you can hear the noise (which I suppose is the air being forced into the too-small duct.) So, I would think that a 4 in duct installation would be noisier than a 6 in duct installation, even though both are listed as options for this fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best purchase for retrofit. Best purchase for retrofit. Did not need to get up in the attic, all was done from the bathroom area. Has a 6" exhaust port, but can be reduced to 4". This thing is so quiet, you wont know its on. I also installed a timer switch. The bathroom does not fog up, even with hot showers. A definitively noticeable improvement. Worth the extra cost. You wont regret this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice fan Slightly larger than the similar old fan, hopefully it will stay quiet for a long time. It seems to use a bigger blower wheel and a smaller motor to be more efficient. I was looking to replace the old blower but found this new unit on sale for close to the same cost as the replacement blower.
