Are the fan blades vinyl or wood?

Asked by: Bugsy
Thanks for considering our ceiling fan for your outdoor project. The blades are not real wood. They are ABS blade, which is a type of plastic. They have a wood look,

This is an old model that I purchased on the Home Depot website that has a 1/2 inch down pole. Needed an 18-inch down pole, but it wasn't available at the local Home Depot store. An associate said he hadn't seen this type of fan in years. Current models have a 3/4 inch down pole. Return both fans and purchased a newer model that has a 3/4 inch down pole. No wonder the fans were on sale.

Guess what? There was no downrod ball. Immediately ran to home depot for a ball while contractor got started. Got a ball. No problem. Wait there was a problem. The fan came with a 1/2" downrod. Most are 3/4". Ok. Back to store. Got an adapter kit and a 3/4" downrod. Nope. Fan wouldn't accept 3/4" downrod. Search for a day. Find a specialty store. They had two leftover 1/2" balls. Bought those and finished installation. They don't list the ball in their manual. Mine had the ceiling mount bracket but no ball. I bought this because it was wet rated. Well it hangs under a ceiling so it's not going to get water splashed on it anyway. The only difference I saw was it comes with two rubber covers that are ugly. Would have taken it back if the contractor hadn't already painted on it. Live and learn. Don't buy this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from NuTone fan I was a little disappointed that the blades were brown, and not black like the base.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Fan Overall This fan was simple to install, although most fans in its class shouldn't really be any harder. The directions could certainly be better to guide an amateur - some things left to the imagination - but anyone with some experience won't even notice the omissions. I like the motor finish, but the blades do look a bit fake. If you want to use the oak side of the blade, you probably won't be pleased with the look of them at all. But the dark cherry side is acceptable. One thing I do like is the balance - it runs extremely steady, and I did not need to go through any balancing steps at all. Good airflow performance. Nice fan for my screen porch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted Installed 2 fans on my new patio cover. No balancing required, quite operation, they look great. The instructions are a bit vague but after I got the first one up, the second was a breeze (yes, pun intended).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Patio Fan This fan is quiet and moves air very well. Installation was relatively easy. Used for an outdoor patio fan. There are rubber skirts used to protect this fan from water entry into the wiring and motor areas. Be aware that the drop down shaft is only 12 inches from the ceiling and you will need an extention if you want the fan any lower. Otherwise, this fan works well on a slightly angled ceiling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wet Rated 52 in. Outdoor Ceiling Fan Appears to be a good fan. Ordering was simple. Delivery was good. Packaging was good. Down rod came before fan and light fixture. Installation was relatively simple. Instructions could be better but I've done this a few times. The fan is nice a quite. Air flow is adequate.Seems like a good product. Running for about a month now and no problems yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan exposed patios We were looking for fans that we could install in our pergola that would hold up to the rain and snow. We purchased two of these two years ago and not only have they done a great job during the summer, they have fared very well during the wet winters (40+ inches of rain and snow). The fans install just like a normal ceiling fan with the exception of two extra steps to add rubber boots over two critical areas to prevent water penetration. The first fan I installed I missed the rubber boot part of the instructions and I had to disassemble it, then actually read the directions and put it back together again. We have just purchased two more of these so a majority of our pergola is now benefiting from the air movement. We use them more as a bug repellent than for the air movement . With the fans on high there isn't a mosquito or flying insect that can get to us when we're under the fans. The fans clean up very easily and unlike a lot of other fans that I've seen people install outdoors, the blades still have their original strength and haven't warped down from sun exposure after two years.
