Customer Questions & Answers

What does this tool do

Asked by: Lito
You use it to locate underground structures like septic tanks, tile fields (thus the name "tile probe") or utilities like plumbing or electrical piping. It is made from fiberglass to provide some protection against electrical shock should the probe penetrate an underground electrical wire.

What is the diameter of the rod not the handle. If it it too large it will be difficult to plunge into gravel.

Asked by: Wingman
The rod itself is 1/2 inch diameter. The tip is slightly larger, which I believe is by design, allowing the rod to make a slightly larger hole so the rod has less friction going in and out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use. If you can't push it down next... Easy to use. If you can't push it down next to your tree, then you have not enough.

Well made and works great, even in nearly frozen ground in northern Michigan in February. Granted, we did have a brief thaw that helped, but the probe is very sturdy and pushed into the ground with ease. The only problem I had was forgetting to remove the protective cap over the tip before using it! Wrecked it, but oh well. I was able to locate the septic tank on a house I am remodeling in the spring. Will definitely be used again on other jobs. Far better than the cheap home-made thing I tried first.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Maybe good for finding shells on the beach Probe bends easily, will not go into soil. Unable to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Soil Probe It does the job & goes into the ground much easier than some make-shift things we've tried to use to probe for septic tank & lines. Metal tip helps with that. It's lightweight being fiberglass so easier to carry around than a metal stake if you're going to cover a lot of ground.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a charm Purchased to locate items underground, and does that well

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight but strong This probe worked quite well even in our tough Texas clay. Of course it worked even better after a good rain. I found the pipes I was looking for before doing some excavation as I didn't want to tear up my water lines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The soil probe does exactly what it is intended to do. The soil probe was relatively easy to insert in the soil until it hit rock. That was what I bought it for. It did the job properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safe and effective Durable, easy to use, easy to clean. Most importantly, Non-conductive. Don't be poking around with a steel rod. It could be your last job of your life.....
