Our guest bathroom and hallway are in the middle of the house, and any light that filtered in from adjacent rooms was not much. So we decided to try this skylight, and we're very pleased with the results.
Fortunately our roof is standard (asphalt shingles with 4/12 pitch). But even so, the directions are very minimal and thus I recommend caution.
If your installation allows for a fairly straight (vertical) tube installation, you will have no problem completing the job in an afternoon as stated. But if your install requires an angled tube, then you will be in for a big headache if you follow the instructions step-by-step. In our case, the roof framing in the attic was very busy, with ridges and valleys directly above the bathroom. So an offset of several feet between the roof opening and the ceiling opening was required.
I started by finding a location on the roof that was close as possible to the bathroom, but far enough from ridges and valleys that the flashing would fit without interference. After cutting the hole and sliding the flashing beneath the shingles, I "tacked" it in place with just two screws instead of immediately and permanently securing it in place (with roof sealer and multiple screws) as directed in the instructions.
Long story short, dry fit everything first. Meaning, don't permanently secure ANYTHING until you're done. This is especially true if your bend in the tubing must go toward the downhill side of the flashing, because the provided template leaves part of the roof deck extending into the flashing opening. Had I not been able to easily remove the flashing to enlarge the roof hole, I would not be leaving such a favorable review!
I also recommend NOT cutting the interior ceiling opening until after (dry) fitting the roof flashing and tubing. In my case, moving the ceiling opening a couple inches closer to the roof opening allowed me to stay within the 48" maximum length of the included tubing, which in turn saved us from having to buy an extension tube just to gain a couple inches. Trying to anticipate the tube length by measuring (as described in the instructions) will work if you're well within the 48" maximum length and the 45 degree maximum tube angle. But if you're near the limit, it is impossible to accurately measure because of the extra length required above the roof deck and the extra length required by the angles.
Bottom line ... we are very happy with our new skylight. We especially like having the bathroom (and even the adjacent hallway) brighten with the sunrise every morning, same as the other rooms with windows.
Thank you for an excellent product!

The product was easy to install in my situation. I was able to go straight down from the roof to the ceiling (< 30") without having to adjust the angle of the tube. I only had to trim down its height a bit. I do home improvement projects quite often and it took me the better part of a day...mostly because the installation location in the attic was very tight. Two people would make it even easier. The finished product's appearance on the ceiling has a simple, clean look. The appearance on the roof is a bit odd, but nothing I am concerned with (it only extends a foot and a half or so above the roof line on the high side). Absolutely worth the cost and effort. I will be installing more in the future, if the need arises. The amount of light is amazing, however my room is only 6' x 8'. I was able to remove every bit of the blue tube liner, so the light is very natural (I believe one review said it has a blue shade to it.) Shipping was very quick and easy.
One last comment...I am not a roofer, but I would suggest adding some roof sealant to the tops of the two screws that are installed through the composite flashing into the roof. I don't remember reading that step in the manual...

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by NativePyrope Blue type hue.... ????
i'm the home owner and installer of this product. Everything fit together nicely but a few things that i want to point out; starting from worse to minor.
1st: after complete installation; the tube reflects a blue based light into the bathroom and that gives it a overall 'i'm living under the sea" look.
2nd: As i cut the template for the base(ceiling/drywall) Upon final assembly, i had a 1/4 gap around the cut to the product; hence air leaks & loose fitting... so i cut WITHIN the template for the roof for a tighter fit.
3rd: Reflector is plastic; i assumed that it was to be glass, reason... more light.
4th: LASTLY... Package NEEDS to mention that you will lose about 1.5 inches after fitting; so that left me with less than 2 inches AFTER final cuts.... not 48 inches but 45 inches

I had one of the 10 inch models installed and there is a strong blue hue to the light. It is more pronounced in the morning and evening. In the full sun of the day the blue does almost completely go away. However in the morning there is an under the sea feeling to it.
Be careful if this will be in shade or partial shade for the whole day as I would think the blue light color could be too much.

It took my husband 90 minutes to install by himself. It lets light in, it looks good. We are going to do two more.

My wife suffers from SAD and we recently purchased a King Sized bed. This put the bed away from the only window in our room.
I purchased and installed this skylight this Saturday. From the time I got home and opened the box, until the skylight was installed, all messes cleaned up and my tools put away was about 3 hours.
The amount of light is impressive and you even get a soft glow at night from the moon.
I plan to install more in other rooms in the house, and potentially another in the Bedroom.

This is about the tenth one I've installed for customers. I've also installed other brands but this is the best and easiest. The only problem was when we opened the unopened box the instruction package with the templates and hardware was missing. Back to Home Depot. They had 4 units left, and three were missing the same parts!!! If you buy, check your box for ALL the parts before leaving the store.

My wonderful baby brother installed this for me in a very dark bathroom due to no windows being present. It took him about an hour to install and the results are phenomenal! I have attempted to turn off the light switch dozens of times as I walk past the room because it is so bright with a wonderful white light. The light is much brighter and whiter than with CFLs or regular light bulbs. I did find some spots which needed attention with cleaning after installing this skylight which were not visible with the normal bulbs. Minimal light outdoors creates light indoors. You won’t be disappointed. I am now considering placing two additional solar tubes in other areas of my home that can benefit from free light during the day.
