Advanced DIYer/Semi-Pro here: read the mixed bag of reviews, and was expecting the install to run not so smoothly. I did a custom install, notching the frame of the new Pella vinyl sliding door to accomodate the roll cartridge, and use the built in screen door track to hold the slider and screen. 3 hours total, including all the Dremel clearancing.
The tradeoff for me was a nice clean look not installed on the face of the sliding door frame nor having to use a buildup block between the fixed panel and the cartridge, vs getting additional stability because the rails supplied in the kit actually have a nub that the slider and screen ride on. I didn't have the clearance to jam that in there.
Been using it constantly for about a month, and couldn't be happier. No bugs leaking in, screen is taut. My only complaint is that the magnet is so strong, ya gotta wrestle the door open LOL. Dogs have not crashed into it yet, we'll see how we do when that happens.
Seems to be built ok, and good value compared to the other brand i looked at 3x+ the price. DIYers, don't get overwhelmed at the instructions. Totally do-able.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mike Difficult to install, too flimsy
It took me several days to figure out how to install this, and then an entire day to do the actual install. It claims to work on any door, but the more complex your trim, the harder the install and the worse the final result will be.
Also, when you open the door, you have to be careful or the spring will pull the door open too quickly and it will bang and the assembly will shake. This catches everyone off guard when they first use it. I'm afraid it won't last very long because of this. The housing is held on with one screw on the top and one on the bottom, which is just too long--the middle of the housing flexes quite a bit.

I purchased and installed an ODL retractable screen. The instructions for short sill are wrong. The filler board should convert the short sill into a flush sill. Otherwise the bottom track will not line up with the tab of the screen housing. I wasted a lot of time following the instructions to make the short sill extend out 3/4" beyond the edge of the exterior trim. This must be something left over from a previous design. It does not work for the current design. The instructions for short sill preparation should be reviewed and revised. The short sill must be converted to a flush sill for the design to work.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sawyer321 Truely an excellent product!
This is much better than a similar product, sold by HD's major competitor. This screen door required much less measuring and cutting. Installation was simpler. Door latch is a (very stong) adjustable magnet(other product has a hook like catch). Good looking finish; easy operation. It's all good. One cautionary note: this is my second retractable screen door. It seems that these screen doors are almost invisible in most situations. The first screen was demolished when a preoccupied realtor walked through the closed screen door. A solution and protection is to paint something on the screen. Magnetic decorations won't work. They will prevent the screen from rolling up and retracting(closed).

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Steve Just what we were looking for
We wanted a screen door for our interior garage door (entrance door) but didn't want a swing door that would be in the way more times than not. A retractable screen door was the perfect solution! While this seemed a bit pricey, I will admit that it seems very sturdy and well put together. Installation was not difficult, but I do recommend taking your time to ensure measurements, cuts, and squareness are right. A "helper" is also beneficial to help align everything just right. The manufacturer also has installation videos on their website if you need more "visual" clarification...I found this helpful. Took about an hour to install, and we are very happy with the finished product. Functional, smooth operation and not in the way when not in use!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by NewMom A little hard to install, but worth the effort
My sister and I tried to install this product ourselves, but found that it required a far greater skill level than either of us possessed. I hired a handy man to do the job. It took him about 3 hours. The time and effort were well worth it. This screen door is excellent! The only "issue" is that the magnetic closure latch is awfully strong. It takes a good tugging to open the door. Also, the screen is pretty transparent. We've had a few close calls with guests not realizing there was a screen there. Other than that, I highly recommend this retractable screen door.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by kwarner01 Installation Difficulties
While the ODL Retractable Screens looks good and works well once installed, the installation process is very difficult. I have installed numerous products in my home in the past, and would consider myself above average working with my hands. The weatherstripping provided is extremely difficult to install and poorly designed. It is extremely difficult to snap into the slot and would have greatly reduced the aggravation and amount of time needed to install the unit if instead, the units were shipped with the weatherstripping in place. It's also best to have assistance from another person while installing the main unit, as it is not easy to line up the main unit with the bottom rail due to the length and weight, and the manner in which they line up.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Captsav Great Product.....Easy Installation
Just finished installing double retractable screens on an outswinging French door. Installations went really smooth. Instructions were very clear. They are also very cleverly and simply engineered, so they are "forgiving" as far as installation goes. Only issue I had was a few leftover screws that didn't seem to have any purpose. Doors look great and operate very smoothly. I was replacing some European retractable screens I had installed about 10 years ago that were giving me problems, and these are a far superior product.
