What tool is recommended to trim these down to a smaller size?

Asked by: Savwich
I have cut and installed thousands of these plastic light panels and in my opinion, the best way to cut them to size is to use a table saw. You can also use a handheld circular saw or Skill Saw. 1. Table Saw Method: Run a piece of masking tape along your cut line on the back (smooth) side of the lens so that the saw blade will cut down the middle of the tape to prevent chipping and cracking during cutting. Cut with the tape side down against the saw table and cut in a smooth, steady pace. remove the tape when finished. Stopping mid-cut or cutting too slowly will cause the blade to heat up and the plastic could melt. If the lens begins slapping against the saw table, you are moving too fast, or your blade may be dull. You can control this and prevent chipping by placing a board on top of the plastic. 2. Circular Saw Method: Sandwich the plastic between two pieces of wood when you cut it. Mark your cut line on the top piece of wood and then cut through the whole wood/plastic sandwich. You don't need to tape your cut line with this method. It doesn't matter how thick the wood is, as long as your saw blade will cut through it. 1/2" to 3/4" plywood or boards are ideal.

23.75 in. x 47.75 in. Prismatic Clear Acrylic Light Panel is rated 1.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not size they claim to be Hauled these home and to the basement to find they are 22 x 46 inches and do not fit, even though the specs say they are larger. Unfortunately, we took old ones down (30 years old) and had gotten rid of them as they were yellowed and cracked. Now we have no replacements and will have another trip ack to vehicle, to Home Depot to return and then to competitor who does have right size. Unnecessary since this has repeatedly been pointed out. Will do my other shopping at competitors since I have to go anyway.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from difficult to cut to size and breaks easily Needed to cut the width and length to fit the ceiling fixture encasement. Even with the plastic cutter recommended, it was very difficult to it cleanly. Even harder to place in the ceiling enclosure without it bending and cracking. I'll find another solution cause I'm not doing this again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Brittle - will probably break if you just look at it the wrong way Brought this home to replace a lens that took a blow while a fixture was being moved. In comparison to the stock lens on the Lithonia troffer, this replacement lens is thinner, much more brittle can hardly be bent to install without ripping or shattering. It is a disappointing product... Even so, I will probably keep using them as this is what the store stocks. :-/ Plan on buying multiple lenses as you will probably crack a few before getting one to mount.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Glued on opaque label can not be removed the opaque label will not come off the panel. Used Hayden plastic cutter and did get a piece cut with great difficulty. But with the label problem I plan to take the whole mess back and only buy a sheet that Ifirst remove the label successfully from.
