Best way to cut these????

This question is from 36 in. x 72 in. Acrylic Sheets (6-Pack)

I have dealt with about 3 or 4 different kinds of acrylic sheets before, all large size 3' x 6' or 4' x 8'........... some easily cut with the "scoring knife", others were very difficult. The last sheets I tried were 4' x 8' and were thicker, so the scoring did not work. I tried a circular saw with a new and very fine blade......... what a disaster...... it melted the plastic. So what should I use to cut these down to size????? Help! I need answers. Please!!!!

Answer:
I've had luck cutting with a diamond blade on an angle grinder...but I use a variable speed grinder as slow as it will run. 3500 rpm even then it may melt some but that's better than chips or cracks

Answer:
Please visit your local Home Depot and go to Millworks department (doors and windows). There, they can help you Special Order a product and have it cut to the exact dimensions you need. If you would like to try cutting again, please use a fine toothed carbide blade (similar to what you would use to cut plywood).

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Interior Storm Windows Fast shipping and great product! I fabricated (6) custom magnetic interior storm windows to better insulate our not-so-great house windows for a fraction of the cost of replacement windows. When I installed them, after fabrication, my wife couldn't tell they were there because the plexiglass is so clear. I don't know, yet, if they will reduce our energy bill but I can say that they have made our home more comfortable during the last hot days of summer while running the A/C at a higher temperature. I suspect our winter heating bill will be reduced and our home more comfortable as the heat loss through the glass windows should be stopped by both the magnetic seal and better insulating factor of these plexiglass interior storm window panes. I used the Bosch plexiglass jigsaw blades (sold at Home Depot) to cut the plexiglass to custom size to fit the existing window jambs and they worked great. September 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice storm window material I built my own storms with these using using some screen frames for support. They're working great so far, and the acrylic is easy to cut (I used a handheld circular saw with a fine-toothed plywood blade). It's extremely clear and bonds well to the frame. I docked a star for the packaging. This stuff ships direct from the manufacturer, and was insufficiently padded to avoid breakage -- in my pack, every sheet had one broken corner (ranging from 0.5 to 2" broken off). Luckily this wasn't an issue for me, as I had to cut them down to size and had scrap anyway. But, if you need the full sheet size as-is, you may want to call and plead for extra padding. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product The product is five star, however the packaging is two star at best. The six sheets arrived with each broken in at least one corner, and some two corners. Because it is more than a 100 mile round trip to the store and I was able to work around the breaks, I made a satisfactory adjustment with HD and we are satisfied. I would suggest you request added protection. The sheets are being used as a third layer storm window with home designed inside and outside framing. The result is excellent and the interior windows are really invisible. It must be noted that this type of plastic is not scratch resistant and needs to be treated with care. This purchase was for design testing, and I intend to purchase more next year to finish the total house. October 28, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by came broken, only sent half order, breaks easy My order was shipped to Home Depot, when I got home and opened the box I found only 3 of the 6 pieces and all of them had broken corners from being dropped somewhere in shipping. Store customer service was good, they found that the other half of the order was never shipped and they offered me a refund on the broken pieces. I tried to work around the broken corners and found the material very brittle which cracked easy........ February 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by see clearly now Made frames for our screen room using acrylic panels which turned out great. We used to use plastic and it always looked bad and was harder to install. The panels look professional. I'm just hoping that they won't yellow too much and stay clear. October 28, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not worth the money and trouble. I ordered these acrylic sheets to use as storm type windows for my new porch hoping they would be a great product to use. Well I was wrong in hoping for a great product to use for this and they're not cheap per piece. Opened up box for starters and 3 sheets had broken corners. I was able to use these anyway as I had to cut 2 to fit right and the 3rd I used also as it had the smallest broke corner of the 3 and hid it in a top corner out of plain sight. I used a small 1/8" drill bit to pre drill holes to anchor sheets to porch with small 1" drywall screws and just carefully drilling some holes the edges would crack on occasion and you couldn't even get it screwed in place to snug without the edges cracking anywhere from 1"-3" long cracks on a few holes on each sheet. I was being real careful to not over tighten and they would still crack here and there. I was hoping they would last for years to put on and take off for the winter and it already looks like I'll have to figure out something else to use in a year, or 2. I'm really disappointed in the quality for the price you pay for these. :( October 6, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but..... The OPTIX sheets were used to enclose the lower level of our new home very near the Atlantic Ocean. The acrylic sheets were PERFECT for this application and were easily installed with stainless steel screws. However, the two packages received were damaged on all the corners (some worse than others). It shouldn't affect the performance, but certainly takes away from the overall appearance. I suggest better packaging for shipment. October 4, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by would buy again It is a great product this the second one of these I have bought just cut them down to the size I wont and with the left over pieces cut for picture frames. March 25, 2014
