Answer:
Acrylic is not abrasion resistant. It would be best to go into your local Home Depot to the Millworks Department (Doors and Windows) to use the Special Order program for options of abrasion resistant plastic material.

I want to use this as a decorative wall, and I'll attach it to a base on the floor, but there won't be a frame around the actual glass. So can I do that and it'll stand up straight, just like a real glass would?
If not, can you recommend one that will?

Answer:
Acrylic, as with most plastics, will always have some bend in it. Although .220 is typically thick enough to do what you are asking it to, the thicker you can go on the material the better off you will be. You can order a 3/8” or even ½” thick sheets via The Home Depot special order plastics program in their Millwork (doors and windows) department. Answer:
Acrylic sheet is about 20 more impact resistant than glass and does not shatter like standard glass. Both are shatter resistant in that aspect. LEXAN Polycarboante sheet is about 10X more impact resistant than acrylic. Depending on your application LEXAN might be a good alternative for you as well.

1/4" acrylic should work in this application. Polycarbonate Lexan could also be used.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good stuff While mowing my hay field.. picked up something that came thru my glass door of my tractor,, total destroyed it,, glass all over the place.. cost for a new door.. 1385 dollars.. so I decided I would build one out of acrylic,, which I did.. the only thing I would say is use a new steel jig saw blade,, fine cut,, the cutter they try to sell you is nice on straight cuts.. but not worth a darn on curves cuts.. a jigsaw will cut right thru it,, cut fast because the blade gets hot and will stick to the plastic or spray with cool water while cutting.. cost for the new door around 130 dollars.. it is lighter than the glass door but it keeps the bugs out and the cold air in.. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not as 'clear' as I thought. Bought the larger sheet to replace a boat windshield. From all the research and reviews I found this was the way to go. However, I'm not sure what I purchased was Optix brand as advertised. Optix comes with a paper protective covering. This was covered with plastic saran wrap. Looks nice at first glance and working up close. After installation and moving back from it a number of feet, you can see the ripples and uneveness throughout. I would hate to use this on larger windows as it would look bad. Not the smooth clarity of glass at all as described. I believe the real Optix brand is made with higher quality. September 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by clear and discriptive I used this sheet as a top to a pantry that need a little more light. It worked great it allowed me to still put things on top, bright more light in and I don't have to worry about it breaking like glass would. The only down side was the cost a little more than a $100 it serve the purpose and cut easy with a carbite tip blade. Overall it looks great. July 24, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Size for a Great Price I used it for a Backlit sign and it was amazing! Considering that the only other stores that had a sheet this size were over at the West Coast, California, this was such a relief. No need to pay over $200 in freight charges for this. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product with lots of uses. A friend has a wraparound pouch that has more the 100 small windows. These windows are constantly being broken by storm damage. I use the Optix to make replacment windows. It is easy to cut, and doesn't break. It is clear as glass and cleans up easily. I also use it in making bird and squirrel feeders. November 17, 2011
