Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Andy Home Depot needs to work on quality control of their suppliers... If you buy this, check to see it works before you put it together.
To summarize my long review, if you really need a bright halogen lamp, your choices are limited and this will work with a 300-watt bulb. The quality? What quality? There is no quality. It is a piece of junk that does its job. Thank you Home Depot for not making me take the defect lamp apart. I am tempted to try a 500-watt bulb. If you are thinking of buying this, it might be a good idea to order 2 in case you have parts broken or one doesn't work so you have spare parts.
I purchased two of these because my new place don't have ceiling lights. One of my old places didn't and I loved the brightness of the halogen lamps so I purchased one for the living room and one for the bedroom.
One of the two didn't work out of the box. I went through the trouble of putting it all together, and it didn't work. What a waste of time. Called up my local Home Depot and asked if I need to put it back in the box to return it and they said I can bring it back the way it is. I'm glad Home Depot accepts returns for online orders. Otherwise, I would have had to take it apart, put it all back in the box, and etc.
The second box didn't look so good. It looked like somebody had purchased it, returned it, several times before getting to me. The styrofoam was cracked and broken into pieces, the lamp had scratches and the box was deformed. Since the first one didn't work, I was 99% positive this one wouldn't. So before putting it together, I removed the plastics and just plugged it in to see if it lights up and surprisingly it did. So I started putting this together.
There is a glass cover that goes over the halogen. I think this is to protect pieces from flying all over the place in case the bulb blows. IT WAS BROKEN. (SEE PICTURE.)
There are two pieces of grill that goes over the lamp. This probably to keep any drapery, curtains or other objects from getting too close to the bulb. It was impossible to screw the grill onto the housing because the hole is way too close to the rounded rim and there isn't enough room for the supplied screw head. I had to find other screws laying around at home that fit.
The smaller white grill gets screwed onto the lamp and it has three pieces sticking out for you to screw the big grill which goes over it. However, two of those pieces were broken. (SEE PICTURE.)
Luckily, the non-working lamp didn't have a broken grill or glass. So I just took those two pieces from the non-working lamp and put the broken ones on the non-working lamp.
Take your time when putting this together. Rushing could lead to crooked lamp. Also, if the pieces won't screw in any further, just stop there. If you force it too tight, the threaded part may become loose. The threaded part on the base of the lamp has become loose on mine and I can't get it to stop spinning.
The lamp does work so I have decided to keep it. However, it wasn't bright like the ones I remember. I did some reading online on halogen lamps and found out why they are so hard to find nowadays. There is a sticker on the lamp that says maximum is 190 or 200 watt bulb. I took my chance and bought a pair of 300-watt bulbs when I went to Home Depot to return the non-working lamp.
Experience with this lamp to this point has been subpar until this point. When I popped the 300-watt bulb in, I was glad I got this lamp and wished the other one did work. It doesn't seem as bright as the old halogen lamp I had many years ago (which lasted me at least 3 years with a single bulb by the way) but it would do. Much better than the supplied bulb. The 300-watt bulb was installed on 12/13/14. If it lasts long enough, I may forget to update this review but if it goes out soon, I will remember to update this review and let everyone know how long it lasted. Mine probably gets about 4-5 hours of usage per day.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by HCJ12 Astonishing?!
Yes, I am ASTONISHED at how much of a piece of garbage this item turned out to be. Too bad, because I was really looking forward to receiving this. The slots do not line up, and upon arrival, the paint was chipping and the base was rusted! Lovely. I am returning this junk ASAP.

It's an easy assemble. However, when you install the cover wire plate over the halogen you need to cut two holes for the tool to fit into each side prior, to placing wire plate over. Due to not enough room for a tool to fit into the sides. Other than that. It's a nice lamp

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JJJJJ Poor quality and not bright enough
This lamp arrived today and was fairly easy to assemble. It took about 20 minutes to put together. The parts had a cheap feel to them and it was more of a gray color instead of silver.. There was a spot at the top where the dome attaches where the exterior coating had already flaked off. After getting the light assembled it was very wobbly. The plastic, weighted base was not flat on the bottom making the light wobble with the slightest touch. I plugged it in to see if I wanted to try exchanging it for another one without the problem with the base and the coating flaking off and it was not bright enough to light up the room. Our previous halogen lamp that recently broke had a 300w bulb and was plenty bright, but this seemed like a very dim light. I tried putting the 300w bulb in the lamp as other reviews suggested and it immediately began smoking when I turned it on, so I quickly turned it off. Will be returning this lamp and looking for a brighter, better quality floor lamp. Would not recommend this product. Even for a less expensive lamp, it's still not worth the money.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Tribo Cheap and not very bright- would not recommend.
Another cheaply made China product. The light is almost entirely plastic. The screws stripped fairly easily and the light is not bright, even at max. setting. Needless to say, I returned it.

The product arrived in a box that looks like it had been returned ten times. Poor lighting quality.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mare This s the best glowing halogen I have ever had!!!
With the lamp having a dimmer, it gives such a warm and cozy feel to the room; plus it doesn't hurt our eyes; it also blends into the room so elegantly due to the slim structure. Great purchase!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wild2S May take awhile to install, and can use 300W bulb
We had an ALMOST identical looking floor lamp that we got over 10 years ago. Unfortunately, that floor lamp broke at the base. We purchased the old one for about $30 at Target. I was very surprised at how high these lamps go for now.
I was skeptical about ordering this floor lamp without looking at it, but decided to take a chance since I could always return it to Home Depot (thanks HD for a generous return policy). Thanks to other posters, I was very careful during the installation.
A recommendation on installation, screw the 3 "body sections" first. Then screw to the base, then the top lamp. Follow the instruction on the direction of turn. The screw thread on this lamp is very delicate, so be careful. Do not force it if you can't screw it in, take it out and retry. If you force, you'll mess up the thread and you'll have a crooked lamp. This whole installation took me about 25 minutes. You might want to lub it with WD40
Instead of using the 190W bulb included, I replaced it with a 300W bulb (from our old floor lamp). The lamp works great.
