I'm not usually one to go to the trouble of writing a review, but I just had to share how impressed I was with this post base and the clever design behind it! With all due respect, you should ignore the negative review previously given for this product; it mounts securely and easily to concrete with a 5/8" wedge anchor and the tab to slot assembly for the sides is appropriately snug and accomplished with a few taps from a rubber mallet. Well worth the price! I've added a photo from my actual installation for my patio pergola project.

I used these bases to fasten down my pergola that only came with small plastic bases. I am very pleased with the overall design and usefulness of the product. As you may have read in other reviews, the sides do not slide on as easily as the ones in the promotion video. Fortunately, I read other reviews and realized that I needed to make certain that they would slide on BEFORE fastening the bases down to the concrete. That is a MUST! They worked great once I used a small sledge hammer to make certain each piece would slide properly into place. I used a block of wood under the base before doing the pounding to keep from damaging the base. After pounding each side into place in turn, I marked them so that they would go on smoothly in the right place after fastening the base. Doing it this way made things go much better. To try to force the sides into place after the base is fastened down would be extremely difficult. I would have given an 'excellent' for quality and value if the side pieces he been as easy to slide into place as they were in the promotional video. It would be a superior product if the manufacturer could fix this. I am an experienced general contractor and would say that this product would be very difficult for a beginner to work with.

The product works and looks good on my pergola. The only issue I have is you have to file off burs and edges so that they fit together.

The video is real deceptive. It makes it look so easy and it would be if the sides actually fit into the base. Approximately 85% of the sides would not fit into the bases. We had to file the holes out with a file, and file the paint off of the bases, (some of it chipped off itself) to force them onto the bases. Even then it was necessary to use a 1X4X6 piece of wood and hammer to beat them on and into place. The concept is good, but due to either incorrect stamping of the holes and glopped on paint, it was a disaster. I'm not sure structurally how sound it is either since the entire base moved about when you have to beat the side panels on. Using large timbers, 6X6's and up, it is better to cement them into the ground and forget the "looks". The waste of time, extra expense, and lack of stability makes it not worth it at all!!!!
If you insist on using this product, order it way ahead of time, check to make sure each piece easily fits together and only use it on smooth, perfectly level surfaces. Make sure to add four cement lags around the center lag for stability in cement, stone, or any other hard surface other than wood.
