Rated 3 out of 5Â by skydyver to stop water from collecting
FYI: This unit should be plumbed into a closed system so that it will stop collecting water when the barrel is full. If you vent the barrel, the water will exit via the vent once the barrel has filled. To prevent this, the vent must go higher than the diverter or it must direct the water back into the downspout below the diverter but slightly higher than the top of the barrel. If the diverter drops the water into an open barrel, it will continue to fill the barrel even after the barrel has filled, causing an overflow. If the diverter hose goes into an unvented (closed) barrel, the water will back up through the hose and into the diverter once the barrel has filled. (Keep the hose sloped upwards to the diverter so the air can "burp" out.) When full, there will not be anymore room in the barrel so the water overflow occurs inside of the diverter. The water continues down the downspout as if the diverter was not in it. If an open barrel is required, put an overflow downspout in the barrel so the water can be channeled away.

Check the size of your downspouts before ordering this. The product description is deceptive as it lists the product as "4" x 8"" giving the illusion that the product is 4 inches wide by 8 inches deep. The product will only work correctly with the 2x3 downspouts and not the larger 3x5 downspouts. Once I had this home and found it did not fit correctly with my larger downspouts, I faced the choice of either retrofitting my downspout or paying to ship it back to HD. I decided to retrofit the downspout. It's made of durable plastic and comes with a heavy-duty drain hose, no complaints there, just the deception in the sizing. Oatley needs to re-describe the product and start making the same item for the larger downspouts. And HD needs to re-look their return policy when purchasing from the web....either that or carry more items IN THE STORE.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by yokohagi Even when barrel is full, It will not stop collecting water.
Most inportant thing for collecting rainwater is not only correcting water but stop collecting when barrel is full also. Unfortunatelly this small system will not stop. If not stop, How can I do. Whenever rain, do I need to check amout of rainwater in barrel? If full, I need to go out to disconnect system by tool and umbrella in rainning? Or do I need to give up to make water away from house? I still do not understand why home depot sells this kind of stupid.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by tedlaw2 Easy Install, the hose provided is awful.
In general it is a well designed item. However the hose provided with the unit that attaches between the unit and the rain barrel is awful. It is not flexible and it kinks easy.
